How I built a Rat-RatGDO

This video describes how I built an Esphome.io device to control my garage door from Home Assistant, mistakes and all. It's designed for the more novice experimenter as I'm no expert.

You sir totally rock... I tried to build one of these based on the latest Git hub plans and failed. Miserably ... That attempt was the 6 resister version (V2.5).. It was a pain to solder and it didn't work.. I figured I would try again using your earlier 3 resister version... Easier to make...and your instructions were dead simple to follow... My Liftmasters are "early" Security 1+ (Red Learn Buttons) with LM889 wall buttons. After I made the board. I plugged in just the ground (white) and the obstruction sensor (black). I left the signal (Red) wire disconnected... And the MQTT sniffer immediately reported (obstruction clear). WOW! this has a chance! I added the red wire to the opener and TA DA.. BETTER functionality than MyQ. I can open, close, and toggle the lights from HA Nice! Thanks so much!

First I just want to say thank you! I have made one for each of my doors using electric cookie. too embarrassed of my soldering and layout to show pics. They work well with home assistant. I have a question and I don't know how to go about possibly adding some functionality? Looking for feedback as I'm not well versed in Github, etc. I have wireless Liftmaster inside controllers and they are so flaky. Rarely work on first press. I'd like to know if there is a way to add dry contact doorbell switches (old wires still in the wall) doorbell button to interface with rat-ratgdo to toggle the doors? I'm using the 2.5i and for some reason the 3 resistor version I couldn't get working. The 6 resistor and two 2N7000 work a treat! Any ideas where I go to figure out how to add a dry contact to rat-rat to ditch my flaky wireless inside openers?

do I need to build 2x of these to control two old genies with obstruction detectors or can I somehow just issue different commands to different headers and just add more connectors?

If they are old Genies, these devices might be overkill, though I think they would work. You'd need one for each opener. However, If the controllers are old and just use a regular contact switch to trigger the door, then you could make a different device with one Esp8266 and two relays. But you also have to write your own YAML. I wrote something similar years ago for my old-school opener just using C++. github.com/lmatter/GarageDoor

I actually just loaded the firmware from the ratgdo page so I didn't need to use the yaml.

1:21 OMG that schematic. That's the worst schematic I have seen in ages. In impossible to read at a glance. Whoever "reverse engineered" the circuit made sure no one could read that schematic and understand the function :D

They have pcb schematic files for this, would be a good video to understand how to order it printed and how much it would cost
