If I were going to change something up, I’d run the ATEM mini directly into a computer or a laptop as the video source, and use OBS and record. Run the podcast run the pro caster also directly into the laptop or computer as the audio input. Record the podcast locally on the SD card in the pro caster as redundancy. Now the whole podcast is already recorded onto the computer, skipping a step.

You reduce a step but you add a lot of risk and moving parts. If youre using the pc for a lot of tasks, adding that additional load is very risky to the entire production. We have tested both ways and I've since abandoned the OBS combination. Its got its upsides, but any pc issue, a random bsod, updates restart interrupt and its all shot, mid podcast. Keeping a divide in place adds safety imo.

DO NOT DO THIS. The ATM is made to record. A computer is not created to record consistently for long periods of time.

Thank you so much for going into so much detail! This has been one of the most helpful videos on how the actual recording system works. I have so many clients that want to start a podcast where they can conduct interviews and I have struggled to find an actual breakdown of HOW to use the equipment once you purchase it! Also you are the second person to recommend that specific camera for podcasting. So I think I will invest it that one for my podcast. Thank you again!

I would opt for the Mini Iso Pro as you can save all the camera angles in addition to the program switching feed.

This video deserves a like and comment. Thank you for getting straight to the point and being honest about what cameras to use, lights, microphones, rodecaster and atem mini. Ive learnt something today that i will definitely use in my video podcasts

Awesome setup! And god speed on addressing the sound treatment in the space. Post processing is getting better and better with AI, but having it crispy from the rip is always a great feeling.

Nice set, Man! Just an FYI... you can close the battery door on the Sony cameras even with the dummy battery cord. Look closely at the door. There is a little rubber tab that pops loose (stays attached though) so you can run the power cable through the door and close it.

Thanks for sharing. I have the atem but I put it on marketplace. Going to get the iso version. My understanding it records all cameras, and easier to pick which camera after the fact. Considering I won’t be able to get extra hands for someone to choose angles. Just a recommendation for your video, have a backlight lighting you to separate you from background better. If you do already, it just needs to be brighter. Either than that, great video, thanks for the information. I’m looking to setup soon.

Great for recording if you want 1080p footage. You could also route the rodecaster into the Atem

You can actually connect the rodecaster to the atem
@SeverinOehler Жыл бұрын
Couldn‘t you bring an audio signal from the rodecaster directly to the atem mini to avoid the manual sync?
@zillmediaofficial Жыл бұрын
Yes this is possible, but we do not have it set up this way.
@daanothoff6 ай бұрын
Yes you can, but it will be a analog stereo downmix from the multitrack that the Rodecaster is recording. If you care about professional audio you will understand why this is a bad idea.

So you just turn the cameras “on” and don’t hit record? They don’t time out and turn off because they are not actually recording?

You can send audio from your rodecaster to your Atem and have the clean audio baked into your video file. No sync required.
@daanothoff6 ай бұрын
Which leaves you with a stereo mix of the mic signals instead of the multitrack audio which eliminates the possibility to properly mix, edit & process the individual mic signals and makes it impossible to get rid of mic bleed. It’s a shortcut that is possible, but not if you actually care about professional audio.
@fewwture6 ай бұрын
@@daanothoff This is also very true, That part of the video was speaking about speed and I was just adding to that part of the conversation, I guess it puts pressure on mixing properly live.
