Today i learned you can mount orchids. I am new to orchids, only having the common phaleonopsis (spelling?) But i have almost a dozen and some have been flowering continuously for over 18 months now. I was investigating new varieties but very much prefer white in colour. This looks amazing. So excited to investigate further. Thanks for sharing! Such a beauty!

Walkerianas don't flower from the rhizome at all. They shoot a flowering bulb, which is not the main growth bulb, and which may or may not bear a leaf on top. They can sometimes be rather small, hence the impression that it is flowering from the rhizome, but in strong and healthy and thriving plants like yours, they are very frequently large and leafed. Thanks for sharing this outstanding Alba!

Thank you for correcting that lack of precision on my part. My point was that their flowering habit is different from all other Cattleyas who bloom from the top of a fully formed bulb but you are correct, I misspoke about the rhizome.

@@orchidhouse That is a very minor correction! The video and the plant are excellent! You earned a new subscriber!

Beautiful! The frilliness of the lip, sepals and petals all point to loddigesii influence and may explain why you're getting leaves and bulbs with each bloom. The scent on these is phenomenal!!
@orchidhouse2 жыл бұрын
So you think it is a primary hybrid with loddigesii rather than the species? The scent is indeed great!
@SVKLOrchids2 жыл бұрын
@@orchidhouse is probably walkeriana x loddigesii crossed back with walkeriana many times, which is the case for almost every alba walkeriana you can buy in this country

Hi Oliver. That is a very lovely plant and she looks well mounted. Yes those roots are aggressive and looking good. I think she will outgrow the cork soon. Will you attach to another cork or let the roots hang down freely?
@orchidhouse2 жыл бұрын
Hi Blanca. I will let it hang freely. There is plenty of material for roots to cling onto and eventually that cork will be invisible but the rest can hang freely. The only issue is that some might break easily but with so many roots, it does not matter...

Cute and aggressive at the same time, reminds me of a perky high school friend…

so thanks I just got 2 nice divisions from Jim Roberts at Redlands. I'm gonna try a basket don't have conditions for a mount. again thanks for the video. Do you think these babies can stand a lot of sun on a screened porch when they are this young ? Maybe a little shade for a few weeks ?
@orchidhouse Жыл бұрын
It never hurts to be careful at first but once you see root growth and new bulbs growing, it should take quite a bit of light

Where do you get such large cork mounts?

At an Orchid supply store, specifically Green Barn in Delray Beach but most carry that product
