For sharpening the chalk try sandpaper by rotating the chalk tip on it till you get a sharp point.

Cool..Looks great👍 Also a damp Q-tip for fine detailed chalk removal works great. Seasoning the board ahead of time can help in creating cool shadow effects too.

Another option that many artists use is actually paint pens instead of chalk. This will of course be harder to fix errors but it makes it easier in terms of not needing to sharpen chalk.

Brilliant tutorial Shayda, thank you. I know this is an older video now but nonetheless still just as relevant today. I learned a great deal about chalkboard art. I’m wondering though if I’d need to start using my right hand though as I’m left handed...time to get the old camcorder out and see if it has that same function to display the image like yours does. I really hope so. 👏🏼😁🤞🏼

New subscriber here and what a great shock to see your face! You look so much like my little sister it's uncanny! She even wears her hair very similar, she's quite a bit older than you (But she still looks very young, she never seems to age) I'm going to have to direct her to this video when I see her tomorrow, she'll get a kick out of it. Your shop is darling! Quality shop in a beautiful area with a great name! We used to summer there when I was growing up. Haven't been there in 30 years! It's a perfect place for a shop like yours! Wish you happiness and prosperity in your new adventure.

You can sharpen the chalk in a regular handheld pencil sharpener too
@heidicampbell52763 жыл бұрын
JackjackattackIsback that’s what I prefer .... a the larger side of a double “make-up” pencil sharpener ..the chalk won’t break and you get a nice sharp point ..

@simonlister56855 жыл бұрын
She can't charge much as it's not free handed. She's just copying which to me is cheating.

I do this for a living and the way she does it is time consuming and mainly not her own work. Freehand all the way. I'd pay her £20 to do that.

Simon Lister if you don’t mind me asking, how much do you charge? I’m doing my first 2x4 ft chalkboard menu for a friend. Charging him $100 but I would think for a regular client I’d need to charge $200. There will be food artwork on there as well.
@simonlister56855 жыл бұрын
@@CMOEUVRE sorry for the late reply as I've only just seen this. Firstly don't lower prices for "regular" customers as they will want it lower and lower till you are pretty much doing it for free. I work on the basis of board size, script or art or both, how fast you work etc. For that size I'd charge £150 and it's in the style you decide as you're the artist not them. If you have to black the board out first then charge more and charge more for waiting for it to dry. If you want more info you can contact me directly on email simonlister78@gmail.com Ps are you using pens or brush and paint?
@CMOEUVRE5 жыл бұрын
Simon Lister I’m sorry for the late reply as well 😂 I didn’t get a notification until I checked my junk folder. Anyway, thank you so much for your feedback! I’ll email you going forward. Btw, I’m using paint pens.
