I went to high school in the 80’s. There was no brow products, bronzes or highlighters! Foundations were all *thick* and cakes. Eyeshadow was very blue and eyeliner (pencil, of course) was black and thick. We had gloss in a rollerball, lol! Awful, awful makeup times!

Oh and no fancy brushes! Blush and eyeshadow was applied with the applicator that came with the product! So blush was "stripy" lol!

But the real question is, did you know how to apply it properly then? Because part of it is to also show how you applied things wrong and such. I do agree, though, I feel like society is much more pressuring to young girls so they feel like they have to wear makeup once they hit middle school. It's quite sad, honestly, because it's affecting a lot of girls self-esteem because they think from so young that they're only pretty with makeup.

In Asia (where I came from), we are not allowed to put on ANY makeup on, dye our hair, and guys cannot use hair gel or any stylish haircut. Also, we need to wear school uniform everyday and some school might even only allows you to wear black glasses/hair band/school bag.

I went to a Catholic school and they didn't even allow any colors for hair ties other than blue, black, brown, or white. Girls can't get pixie cuts and guys can't have hair longer than 2 inches. It's crazy. I only learned makeup when I was 18, about two years in uni and even then I still feel people would reprimand me for wearing makeup.

I started "wearing" makeup when I was 12,right in the first day of secundaria (which here in the US is middle school) and I only used powder,black eyeliner in my waterline (which that was back in 2007 when the Emo trend was in so people thought I was Emo,I promise I wasn't lol) and mascara only on my upper lashes cause I didn't know that we'll ever wear mascara on the lower lashes LOL,and sometimes I used to wear a gloss but just when I felt like it 😂

My makeup evolved extremely quickly in the year I was 12. I went from wearing brown mascara and a little bit of brown eyeliner with lip balm to wearing eyeshadow, eyeliner, lipstick, mascara, foundation, concealer, blush, bronzer, highlight and a light contour to get rid of my jawline. I was 12 extremely recently but I'm no longer. I was in high school more then 20 years ago. I wore foundation that matched perfectly only cause I learned proper way to match it. The rest of my makeup was scary -- BLUE eyeshadow (i have very bright blue eyes), not the right mascara, and way too dark cheek color. The eyeshadow I was made fun of by so called friends, and boy that end up later being hubby hated it LOL. Too bad NO one had balls to tell me to my face!!! Haha interesting memories.

Thinking back my freshmen year (which they don't have anymore.. I don't even think a lot of people will remember this.. Not sure if you will either. I'm a bit older but...) Caboodles (the makeup cases) they used to have makeup!! I LOVED their creamy eyeshadows. I tried rocking that all over my entire lid! (even my brow bone! 😂) I didn't even care it creased on me. LOL. I remember a royal blue that I loved soooo much!! Now I just cringe when I think about it... And the roller lipglosses... I loved those LOL. Life becomes stressful and the things you enjoy may not do much for you anymore. It's important that you find a way to reconnect with what you love. Play around with makeup. Do looks you probably wouldn't normally do. Switch it up!

You girls are lucky with all the products available to you. I am 59. When I was in high school there were very few makeup brands, no makeup brushes or sponges. I had a lot of pimples and putting on liquid makeup with your fingers didn't help to cover anything. I would only use one brand and don't remember what it was. I wore one lip gloss in a pot. I was very shy and got made fun of, which is why I think school uniforms are a good idea. I think it would stop people from making fun of others. I absolutely love makeup and watch videos constantly. I have always hated when sales people try to color my eyebrows. I will pluck them and maybe brush a light color thru them. I wear long bangs which covers them and the wrinkles on my forehead. I use Retin -A every night, which has made my skin very dry. The only primer which has allowed me to wear makeup is Cover FX anti-aging. Try Dermacol. I have very light skin and use 310. A half of a pea size will cover your entire face. It will cover anything. I tanned constantly up until age 35 and am now paying for it lovely sun-spots and precancerous lesions. Even my father dying of skin cancer didn't stop me from laying in the sun. I think people are much prettier with their natural coloring

I love this video! All through high school and college, I didn't wear much makeup cause I was extremely busy. When I got my first big girl job, I had time to do my makeup and hair and I FELL IN LOVE. I seriously can not get over it. I just recently started making youtube videos and it is hard starting out. Like you want the support that you see other youtubers have, but literally no one watches (cause they have no idea who you are). Thanks for the advice to stick with it and keep trying.
