It’s always nice to hear someone who is blind in one eye. I have since birth in my left eye. It can be tricky but I accept my limitations and move forward. I also ride a motorcycle so if I can do it so can you. All the best my friend.

I'm thinking of writing the character Zuko to have decreased vision/blindness and be hard of hearing/deaf on his scarred half of his face. I want to have good representation overall in my writing. Blind in my left since (technically) age 9, cataract started at age 3 so really I haven’t known any different. Sight is 20/500 left. Glad to see other VI drivers that are willing to out in the work and change habits to still make driving possible.

I’m so glad you talked to your mom and decided to post! My 12 year old son is blind in his left eye (had a stroke when he was 5) and his big sister is driving and he was wondering if he could drive! This was so encouraging as we watched it together. Thank you!

Tell your son it is perfectly possible! I’ve been 20/500 out of my left since age 3 (early age cataract) currently 39 and have been driving since 18 with a near perfect driving record. When I first started I had a restriction to no freeways (lived in CA), since moved to OR and that was removed. No issues since. Practice, practice, practice….. turning the head further left to see everything around you is a must. Also need to give a little extra distance when breaking to adjust for the depth perception.

Yeah, driving with one eye isn’t bad at all. It is more of people being nervous to drive with one eye. Once you learn to apart to your specific situation it become second nature.

I was diagnosed with embloypia (lazy eye) left eye like most who commented here but my eye is perfect but the left is not as good, it's pretty much blurry like when you zoom your camera lens but i do see what objects i face so i hope too i get my license in South Africa

It to have vison in one eye and drive / ride bike,car but Its very tough to get driving licence in india ie Karnataka ..

I've been blind in my right eye since 2017. I've just started to learn how to drive in September, 2022, so not long. Hopefully I'm able to pass. In California, you need to see better than 20/200, best corrected in the good eye. I see 20/125 best corrected, so I think I'll pass.

Ive been blind on left eye since born i was born in 26 week of pregnancy so my left eye didnt develop. I want to know so much how it is to see on both eyes. Thing i hate about being blind on one eye is that people make fun of me and call me pirate😢 and im scared that i will never find a gf just bcs of dis bcs of how i look. My eye is small than my healthy eye and i am ashamed of it even tho i know that i dont have to bcs its not my fault its no one fault got wanted it like that i guess. But atleast my right eye is healthy. Im 14.

The only thing I can think of is to get blind spot mirrors or the blind spot sensors integrated into the side mirrors that detect objects in the blind spot

any suv you would recommend driving i also I'm blind in my left eye and I know we have to be the most alert on the road but I feel like the right car can also help in that case I am going to sechudle a drivers licence test but I'm in the market to buy a used SUV to travel canada's icy and summer road

As long as you pass the tests and have good enough vision in your right eye, you should be good to drive

My eye had color, I would say about 5th grade is when it changed due to bleeding in the back of my eye. I was put on drops to keep it healthy.

I'm blind in my left eye with a prosthetic since I was 10 I'm 25 now trying to get my license and barely got my permit.its been hard any tips for blind spots? Depth perception isnt too bad I'm usually great at gauging distances but the blind spots make me anxious

I agree, blind spots are more challenging. No matter the amount of technology to help with blind spots it is always good to check. It is difficult at first but gets way easier the more you do it. Different things that could work is blind spot mirrors or sensors that light up on the mirror knowing a car is in your blind spot

Driving during the day is fine, but I wouldn't drive at night if you don't feel comfortable doing it

@@hussanshahid2108 if you’re in the US and driving then I could see driving being more difficult but if you drive on the left side of the road driving would be like me pretty much. It pretty much all comes down to training and experience. If you drive in the same area most of the time it has helped me learn the roads and in turn make me better at driving at night.

I was able to go to a normal driving instructor. But before that, in most cases you have to test your peripheral vision to see if you can drive.

I see where you are coming from but anytime you’re on the road it is a risk. It could be someone with two eyes, one eye, drunk, or just bad drivers in general. I don’t think isolating yourself from driving is the best thing but that is my opinion. I’ve been driving for almost 6 years and haven’t gotten into any wrecks. I make sure to look more when I’m driving, but I’ve also adjusted to my circumstance. But honestly it comes down to how you are taught to drive.

@@erikalittlefield nope, any car should be fine. I drive a 2010 Ford Focus. But some new higher end cars have sensors all around the car, lights to know if someone is in your blind spot on the side mirror, collision sensor so the car brakes for you, and the car can keep you in your lane
