Many people get intimidated when it comes to looking for software engineer jobs and I believe it's because they make it complicated. I spent a lot of time trying to figure out the best way to get myself noticed by companies. In this video I explain the process that I always take when I'm looking for a software job.

Love the tip about taking the extra time to apply for a job directly through the employer's website. Cheers!

I used to actually consider it a red flag if a company has the 'easy apply' option enabled haha...

Thank you for the inspirational video. I’m going through a career change from a network engineer to the enjoyment of learning python. Here in the UK we are in a cost of living crisis and a terrible recession. Thanks to your fantastic inspiration I’m just gonna keep learning. I would like to know how you got into programming and why you chose JavaScript? Thank you so much. Oh and I wanted to ask what should beginners like me start with - front end or a back end language?

Javascript it basically a must know if you're doing frontend I'm not the best at anything to be honest despite having 8 years experience (my fault for not specializing to be honest) but if you're going to be doing web of any form....start learning javascript. Freecodecamp is a good option for learning

On LinkedIn, is it Ok to put your job title as "Web Developer" and the Year in which you started to learn code (if you have no experience and trying to break into Front End)? What do you recommend? Thanks

Brother Brian, LinkedIn has been proven to be quite prejudicial. Some years ago I applied for a position within IT. The Network Administrator open position with a certain company in Virginia was PERFECT for my taste. However, after a so-called "evaluator" of Linked In evaluated my resume, HE claimed I was not qualified for the position as I found that incredibly strange. How does a man with 10-years of IT experience as a helpdesk supervisor, IT Specialist and Sr. Desktop Engineer be scrutinized by some pinhead critiquing MY qualifications?? Indeed may indeed be a bit old schoolish, but I've been subscribed for about five-years now and have had great results as opposed to the other two mentioned. Not a sermon, just a thought! Great broadcast and a much needed broadcast, Brian. I'm listening to every word. ✌🏿✊🏿💯and much🖤

They're out there..that just means that was an employer/company you probably wouldn't want to work for. Don't sweat it and keep applying

You mention that we should include projects with JS, React and HTML, but would React be necessary for a Backend resume?

Maybe you need to go to the front end first. Most do.

I swear I've put in almost 200 applications, mostly on indeed and I've gotten one interview... its almost pointless. Ill try what you suggested to go directly to the website and apply there.

Try other platforms and all platforms, Indeed, Linkedin, AngleLists, and also get advice on your resume by others, and keep improving your skills/projects.

I’ve been applying directly to their website and have gotten a response within a few days. No luck yet 😂 but I’m still gonna be applying and practicing for the interviews.

@@laposworld1178 Im in the same positon, I've honeslty gotten more interviews spamming easy apply instead of writing bullshit cover letters and applying on companies sites. If they require a long applicaiton just dont do it its not worth your time.

With LinkedIn, placing 'Actively Seeking Work' on your image may be a bit embarrassing if seen by your boss or colleagues who like to snitch!
