Keep the blue wall! It's gorgeous, and highlights the lines of the headboard. If you paint it light, you won't notice the headboard, and I think the room might look blah. You've got such a good design sense.

You have such a great eye, and you're educating us by explaining your thought processes. I'm so glad you hung the painting over your bed at a much lower level than the two small paintings. If in doubt, ALWAYS hang something lower than you think it should go. Imagine it at direct eye level when you're standing, or just a few inches (max 6-10) above the furniture while you're sitting. If you have a mix of both, there's always something interesting to look at and enjoy. When you find the right piece, you could replace that mirror with a real show stopper, or a magical grand mirror. All in all, you did a wonderful job!!! PS - I also used to hang paintings too high. Now that I have "seen the light" according to my dad, I appreciate the value of really being able to study a painting.

Melba, I hope this message finds you well. I wanted to take a moment to commend you on the fantastic work you've done throughout your home. Your attention to detail truly shines in every room. Loved this video. As you consider your options for the closet doors or curtains, I suggest exploring light off-white velvet curtains that can be easily opened and closed with a sliding rod. This approach not only adds a touch of elegance but also allows for flexibility in your space. Investing in canned lighting is a wise choice, as it can elevate the overall ambiance of your home. Additionally, I admire your commitment to finding second-hand furniture; it brings character and warmth that make a house feel like a home. Lastly, consider framing your TV and using free downloadable art to enhance your decor-it's a wonderful way to personalize your space without significant expense. Loving your decorating journey! Looks like a magazine cover! You have such talent, and such an eye for design. I LOVE the blue wall. And the rug. And the headboard, sconces, and chairs. Don't paint your furniture; I think they look better in the wood tone. If you want a different look, I wonder if you can use a gel stain over the current finish? I think your floors look good, too, and i know floors only have so many sandings in them. I like how you explain your progression thru different pieces, and how you fine-tuned what you like in the space. I'd love to see any other projects you're working on. If you run out of areas your own house, do other people's places. You are so good!!!

Thank you Ann and good to see you again! 🤗💕 I should have clarified in the video when I said “refinish the furniture” I meant to restain/re-seal it, I have no plan to paint it! Love your room and I agree, the swivel chairs in a lighter fabric would be a big improvement. Why don't you find a seamstress or an upholstery shop that can execute a slip cover? Slip covers are much cheaper than new upholstery. You can specify "performance" fabrics - which are indoor/outdoor fabrics that look and feel like linen and cotton but have incredible durability. When I worked as an interior designer, I sources upholstered pieces from estate sales all the time and got slipcovers for it all. The trick is to find a good upholstery shop. Best of luck, Melba - you're doing great!
@MelbaMakes Жыл бұрын
Hi Linda 🤗 thank you for the tips and encouraging words! Slip covers are definitely an option I’ve considered but will need to better understand what a budget for that looks like, do you have a sense of a range for how much that could cost? Im sure choosing the fabric is important too so that the dark fabric doesn’t peak through a lighter colored one so thanks for the recommendation on indoor/outdoor fabric, I assume that will be thick and will handle that concern
@lindacgrace2973 Жыл бұрын
@@MelbaMakes Yes. Indoor/outdoor fabrics are a gift from on high! You can have the fabulous light tones you want, WITH kids and a dog. Even so, with light over dark, be sure to hold the swatch up to a light to see how tightly woven it is. I can't help you with the cost - it depends so much on where you live. New York City is a Mecca of upholsterers, but not exactly cheap. Then, it's always worthwhile to look up seamstresses who do bed linens and curtains. They have the heavy-duty sewing machines to get through thick fabric. I hate to give such a feeble answer - but whip out your computer and brush off your Google skills! You'll find somebody nearby, I'm sure.
