Thanks for this! My daughter is entering 9th grade and shes a Jumper/Sprinter at 5.78m and 12.21 100m. We live in FL but USC is her dream school. She just went to visit Cali with her cousins and went to run on the track but it was closed. She went up to UCLA and got to get some work in on the West Coast! Here's to dreaming

Ultimately it is more realistic to go to college in which my dream school would be Florida Gators but going the path Noah lyles took where he won world Juniors and went pro out of high school is really inspiring but not many athletes can deal with the pressure racing against the best and they just fall off.
@kingsleysc3 жыл бұрын
The gators were always one of my nemesis schools lol but they are a great program. The going pro out of high school route is always tough and very few transition successfully. I’d recommend doing at least one or two years of college if you had the choice

Thanks for the info. I’m a dad researching (way too early mind you) for my 12 year old. We’ve got about 4 years to prep but he’s running a 24.4 in the 200, 53.3 in the 400, and 2:09 in the 800. I just don’t want to get caught slipping and uninformed in case he has the talent go pursue athletics beyond high school.
@kingsleysc2 жыл бұрын
As a fellow father I definitely understand, it’s never too early to gather info! There are a lot of events in track and field and many schools with scholarships so there’s a good chance he can secure one if he continues to progress 👍🏾

Aaron what was your time when you first started training? I remember stories of degrasse running 10.9 in basketball shoes in his first race, which is insane.
@kingsleysc3 жыл бұрын
In grade 9, I ran in basketball shoes and shorts as well and didn't know how to use blocks so I did a standing start. My best time that year was 11.3. I ran the 10.73 that I mentioned in the video the next year.

@@kingsleyscI ran 11.2 on dirt as a freshman with little to no training in San Diego at Mt Carmel high school back in 79. Hooked up with another athlete by the name of Ed Reyes. He put up goals for me and corrected my form. Finally, during my Sr in Texas made major drops. 100m 10.6; 200m. 21.44; 400m. 47.7. 4x4 split 46.84. Was going back to home to USC but bad grades. Changed to Pasadena city college. Eventually signed on with TCU that summer. My advice practice, practice, practice. Set goals, listen to your coach. I remember having to train myself during the summer. Good luck to you.

Dude. A Canadian champ and Olympic medalist. If Aaron was American he would have a huge following especially with the video quality. Will follow on my way to sub 50 this summer. On that note do you have a 400 pr? And ahhh can you get a scholarship at 35? ...asking for a friend 🤣 Great job :)

Appreciate the love! Good luck with that 400, at 35 a sub 50 would be impressive! I’ve only run one open 400 in 2019 and I ran 46.33. All the best!

hey Aaron learnt a lot from the video! do you ever think it's too late to run track at the next level. ran a 12.75 100m and a 25.75 200m as a sophomore in high school with no "proper training". looking forward to the future of your career!

are you a girl or a guy? ‘cause if you’re a girl those are pretty good starting times and with some proper training you can definitely compete at the next level. if you’re a guy however, you will have to do a lot of work to get the times to compete at collegiate level especially as a upcoming junior. but considering you haven’t had any proper training you might be able improve very quickly with just a bit of coaching because you’re essentially starting from “zero”

How many offers you think I can get jumping 6’5 in high jump my first year and still have a senior year left
@kingsleysc3 жыл бұрын
That's impossible for me to say. It would depend on a number of things: how much room for improvement you have, where you jumped it, your other accolades etc. I would reach out to some schools you're interested in and see what they want you to do to get recruited by them
@Kempkes10 Жыл бұрын
I’m a sprinter and long jumper. I am a sophomore and in my freshman year I managed to get my long jump from a 16’9 to a 19’4. My goal this year is to get it to a 20-21 and to break my school record 23’11. If I work towards it do you think it’s possible for me to get at scholarship to a d1 school?

I don't see why not, it can only help you by being around the environment you are aiming for. It will give you a better sense of the campuses you want to go to and help develop a dream school list. Go for it 👍🏾

Hello Aaron I have two questions. What was your best 100m time the year you first started track. I started in grade 8 this year and my best time was 11.78. My second question is, do D1 universities have a certain standard 100m time to automatically be on the team, or do they only have a certain amount of spots.
@kingsleysc2 жыл бұрын
My first year I ran 11.4 my first year and yes D1 schools have standards that they like to see before they offer scholarships that you can find on some of their websites. You can also contact them through streamline athletes website. I talk about this in my college recruiting series, check it out: kzbin.info/aero/PLAWMT2A1xpHA09HmU0DpRVG4pUoQu1lyh

So i’m a sophomore and I tried track and long jump this year for the first time with no weight lifting, no coach, and no practice. My first jump at an invitational was 16’7 and my Last jump of the year (about a month later) was 19. Im wondering if you think it’s a good idea to reclass, as now i’m going to take it seriously and my goal as a senior is 22-23ft
@kingsleysc2 жыл бұрын
Whatever you think puts you in the best position to nature that talent then I’d say do that. Competing against better talent usually makes people raise their game to be competitive. You just have be comfortable going against people who may be above your level for now

What if I'm about 4seconds off for that 200m standard. I'm a sophomore in high school but do I still have time to get there before senior year or during senior year?
@kingsleysc Жыл бұрын
4 seconds is quite a bit but keep working hard and making gains, you never know how far you can make it. Plus there are so many schools out there for you to choose from. You can always walk on or do a partial scholarship and transfer or move up to a full ride if you continue to excel. Good luck 👍🏾

How much of the cost does a scholarship cover??
@kingsleysc Жыл бұрын
If it’s a full scholarship it covers everything: books, tuitions, room and board, stipend for food, meal access in the cafeteria, training gear etc
