@cerysm35687 жыл бұрын
I commented this on the video that you deleted on your main channel and it seemed to be helpful to some people so I thought I'd comment it on a video that wasn't going to be deleted! I've just finished year 13 so obviously I can't give any advice about the actual exams but here is some advice about how to fully prepare in year 11: • Don't leave revision to April- trust me, I procrastinated so much and I had so much unnecessary stress in my life and I really regret not doing revision earlier because I know I could have improved my grades. • Make a revision timetable. This will allow you to plan in revision around any homework you have or clubs etc. Do not beat yourself up if you don't follow it entirely- it's just a guideline and can be adapted if your finding it hard to follow. • Take short but frequent breaks and drink lots of water to clear you head. In the breaks, don't go on your phone. • If you find listening to music helpful when revising, listen to classical music (Ludovico Einaudi is fab) or get a certain song or album and assign it to a certain topic/subject and listen to it on repeat when revising (this is what I did). When you're in the exam, you can sing the song and picture your revision and it will help you recall important info. • As far as actual revision techniques go, I found notecards extremely helpful. I would get the ones from Staples (I think they've changed to Office Outlet now) and I would write the title in one colour and then use two different colours for the facts (so say one point would be in green and the next would be in blue etc)- I found that really helpful because I wasn't just seeing one big block of colour. Some of my friends like using mindmaps (they weren't my favourite but for science GCSE I did mindmaps of all the topics and then condensed them into notecards). Actually condensing your notes is a really great thing to do- start by writing everything down and then slowly over the months condense it into realistic things that you could remember so you were cutting out all of the info that you don't need to know. • PRACTICE PAPERS/ESSAY QUESTIONS!!! Any papers/questions your teacher gives you, try and do as many as possible. I know this may be hard because it's a new spec (I had new specs for two of my A-Levels so I know how frustrating it is) but ask your teacher if they could make up some questions and just do them. • Do not let GCSEs consume your life. Have fun! You're in year 11! When you get to sixth form/college the work load will increase (I know it's crazy considering you'll only take 3-5 subjects) and some times you won't have time to go out and chill with you friends. Enjoy the time you have with your friends and do things. For me, I would never revise on a Friday evening so I would make that day my chill out evening- I would hang out with my mum or with my friends or just chill by myself reading, listening to music or watching KZbin. • That brings me on to another point. If you are finding it hard to concentrate with KZbin being always available, go through your subscriptions and unsubscribe from people. BE BRUTAL. It will give you less distractions and you can watch the people that you truly do like. I did this and before I had about 130 ish channels I was subscribed to and then I had about 25/30. I still have kept to a low subscription to make sure I have the least amount of distractions as possible. • If you have a job, in my opinion, quit it. You don't need the stress of it just to get some money (obviously this is different depending on your financial situation at home but I strongly suggest to not have a job). • This one is really important and it is something I should have listened to whilst in year 13. DO NOT compare the amount of revision you're doing with someone else. Literally it will make you feel miserable and can make you feel unmotivated because you know that you can't get the same amount of revision done as someone else in the time you have left. Work at your own pace. If someone else is revising before December, don't feel like you have to. I would recommend to do a bit of revision in the Christmas hols but don't stress too much. That's another tip. • It's easy for me to say as I've experienced A-Levels and I stressed like a maniac whilst doing my GCSEs but seriously, don't stress too much. It's good to have some stress as it can motivate you, but take some nights just to chill and read a book that's not related to school or watch some TV or do whatever makes you happy. GCSEs are something that everyone has to go through. It is not the hardest thing you will do in your life. But trust me you CAN do this, I know you can. It's going to be hard but you can and you WILL be able to get through it. Hope this long and rambly reply made sense and was helpful to someone :)

If you're in a rush :) 1- (1:18) start in September. 2- (2:37) time management. 3- (3:37) do your homework the night it is set. 4- (4:10) have a revision plan. 5- (5:19) past papers. 6- (6:45) use your teachers for help. 7- (7:44) priorities are important. 8- (8:57) use other revision channels. 9- (10:10) make sure you still have a life! 10- (11:23) grades aren't everything.

As a secondary school teacher, (French and German) can I just add how disappointing it is when students don't take us up on the help that is available. I regularly let my students know when I am free and what extra I can do to help. I offer lunchtimes, after school time, tea, biscuits; but find it is only a handful that ever show up. Obviously there are other revision sessions and other important activities during exam time, but I promise you- there will never be another time in your life when you have 13(ish) people willing to bend over backwards to help you out! I may be 26 years old now but I remember exam stress like it was yesterday. Stay cool, everyone and good luck for exam results day!
@jasminecorkery1845 жыл бұрын
I know this is a really late reply but bear in mind every teacher does this for every subject. So when you have 11 teachers saying that they're available for lunchtime/after school sessions its impossible to go to all of them.

As someone who just finished exams I can't exaggerate how important it is to focus in classes. When your in class make sure you understand everything, make good notes in your exercise books, and revise for end of unit exams. As someone who crams this made cramming before the exams sooooo much easier and because I had a good understanding of everything I understood most topics and can jump straight to past papers. I used my end of unit papers, which were all marked by teachers to outline what I know and don't. The more you work in class the less you need to do after school. Don't cram like me though 😂😂

@popslive7 жыл бұрын
Thank you, Eve. I really appreciate this video and find your tips are good. Despite that, I do have to sadly admit that I feel you're not really clued up enough on the new GCSE. I don't come with bad intent, only to bring awareness about the harsh reality of what it is like for the 2018 Grads and first set of full new GCSE students. First hand. 2017 Grads only had maths and English Lit/Lang (I believe, please correct me if i'm wrong) in the new 1-9 GCSE 2018 grads will have everything in the 1-9 GCSE apart from BTEC courses. (options excluding Geography/History) The grades 8 and 9 as said in the title ARE NOT the exact equivalents of the A* grade. Grade 8 is an A*, however a Grade 9 is ABOVE an A* - so really, its an A**. The purpose of the new GCSE and how it works is to separate the people who PASS with the people who EXCELL. That is why they invented a new grade that is even higher than an A*. Additionally, the A** grade 9 will *only be achieved by the very top 3% of the whole entire country.* The grade boundaries are so tight currently and the way grading will work means that the current 2018 grads *do not have grade boundaries, know their exact current grades for mocks and are completely in the dark* Because schools have to make their own grade boundaries, no school is the same (Even department within schools have very different grade boundaries). You could achieve the exact same score on a mock as someone from a different school, and there may be a good 3 grade difference between you both. At my school, the boundaries are very harsh, if you get close to 80% on some exams, you are graded literally just above a pass. Do you see how this is problematic? No one knows really how they're doing, what they should improve and we have no past papers that we haven't already done! Again, it is not only the students who are in the dark - Our teachers have even admitted that they also have no clue what is going on as they barely have any information from the exam boards. for most of last year, we did not have access to ANY revision guides and very little information about the exam layouts, content and key information we really needed. From a 2018 Grad perspective, the exam board and government aren't even prepared for the new GCSE and are treating the students like lab rats for an experiment. Sorry for the vent and that this comment is a little bit like an Essay, I guess the extensive English Language revision rubbed off a little too much. I am thinking about filming a video on this topic, from my own first hand experiences. I hope you can understand the situation a little better, I tried to put this in the most honest and straight forward way possible. Again, this is intended for good and to educate, not to be mean. Thank you for reading and for creating such great revision content. You are a great motivator! All the best, Nikki.

It's a joke she can say 9, gcses are way different, firstly hers were open book gcses ours isn't, she had coursework every subject we only have like 3 subjects. Not to mention our maths exams are 10 times harder legit ( teachers struggled to complete them in the time frame, articles about this). You can't compare an old A* to an 8 or 9 simply because 8 is top end of A* and the A* was available to the many and the 8 and 9 to the few.

I'm especially scared for the sciences. Do you have any tips, it'd be much appreciated. How did you take effective notes for science? Like how did you lay it out? How did you remember it all? There seems so much on the specimen😩I think you will be the only person who'll get me through year 11, you are so motivational and encouraging, so thank you for that! Really hope you see this. Lots of love xx

Mr Bruff was my saviour for English GCSE and he made me enjoy English so much that I'm taking it for A-Level now! I'm taking sociology, psychology and English for A-Level and I'm excited to see what the subjects bring as I've never done two of the subjects I'm doing.

Such a helpful video! I'm actually really worried for year 11. I think teachers can scare you quite a bit for your exams when they start to get stressed and they start to enforce all this revision and past papers. In year 10, they were stressing us out by saying you need to do this if you want to get this grade and you need to start revising now. They honestly made me quite a bit worried for year 11.

Yes eve. My parents are forcing to me revise during the summer because of year 11 exams. They want me to get all 8s or 9s, so they force me to revise 6 hours a day
