Your work is incredibly rich in theory and concepts in modern society. The way you manipulate the materials and connect them to political issues is amazing! I'm glad that you commented on the fb group. I am currently preparing for a MA application/portfolio. My work is different from you as I draw from fantasy, psychology and narrative making. But I love seeing other artists work too. Thank you so much for sharing this video! Also if I may ask do you have a scholarship?

Thank you so so so much for this!! I'm applying from Ireland and that's really helped me out as the application system in the UK is so different to ours, and it's hard to know what colleges are looking for. Do you think you'll make a video showing the physical portfolio you brought to your interview? I love + am so impressed by your work too, truly amazing.

Thank you for this Chann, it's very helpful and kind of you to share. My daughter is now applying to art school and needed some guidance, so I'm very grateful. One thing I notice is that you only have annotation on two or three slides and even then only through photographed scrapbooks. Are there perhaps slides or notes that accompanied your portfolio that aren't included in this video? many thanks.
@channwaugh5423 жыл бұрын
Hi, they prefer no text on the slides from what I learnt. The only annotation you see here is pictures from sketchbooks, the tutor looking at your work should be able to have their own connection to your work before you would then illustrate how you got there etc. There is a portfolio written statement along side the 25 slides which you should describe your practice or what your interests etc are, this will then help the tutors understand your portfolio more. I hope this helps!

oooh bleach. you have inspired me. (also your work is so cool wow) I'm applying for painting and printmaking at GSA this year (ik so is everyone lol) but I'm applying for first year- my work is quite varied, I have a lot of various subjects and there isn't really a through conceptual theme- a lot of your work seems political or statement related- you say they're really interested in things with meaning and background- I have some stuff that is more personal to me but there is also quite a lot of unrelated things- would you suggest focusing on art with conceptual prescedence? also, I know the deadlines super soon but you seem like such a helpful person- would I be able to send you my working e-portfolio (its not entierly finalised) for a wee bit of feedback? Dont mind if not just thought it was worth an ask.

Katie H hey! I’m glad you enjoyed the video. I’d say your portfolio sounds on the right tracks, as a first or second year applicant. My folio is a bit different as I was applying for direct entry to third year so that’s why a lot of my work is resolved pieces! Yes of course feel free to send me a dm on insta @fem_arts and I can give you some feedback! Also if you watch my how to make a portfolio video it may give you some extra tips!x

Hi out there, I saw your video a while ago and thought it was very insightful. I am a student to-be next year, and I'll be applying to ECA. However, I'm a little confused about their portfolio system. It was great hearing and seeing your process while you were talking, but how did you structure those slides? I just want to include process of my resolved pieces but don't know whether I should do that in the resolved work category or in the development category. It seems a bit strange to me that the two should be separated. However, I get equivocal messages from different threads in the Internet and ECA's admission guide. Thanks in advance if you manage to read this. Wish you all the best.
@channwaugh5424 жыл бұрын
For me personally, I decided to chose a few “projects” which I showed some development in the development section and the final piece in the other section, I feel if your work is strong enough they should be able to create the connections but it also opens your work up for a wider view and see connections in works you may not have seen yourself! In your final pieces section be sure to include only good documentation/ photographs of the final piece - it shows what you consider to be resolved. I hope that makes sense? I know if a difficult process but just be confident in your choices!

I'm applying to art school this year, i got the impression from my tutors that every piece in your portfolio had to be linked by a common theme? yours are all very political but not completely linked. Also love your work!
@channwaugh5425 жыл бұрын
Vanessa A hey, first and foremost good luck! No you don’t need to have everything linked, depending on what year you’re applying for. First year portfolios should showcase exploration in my opinion, you shouldn’t have any idea what you want to do at this stage it’s all about exploring possibilities! I applied for third year so my practice was pretty refined at that point, so my pieces are very similar in concept, aesthetic and medium. This is because at this stage I’m close to graduation where I should have a more professional coherent portfolio of work. I hope this makes sense, and remember do you! That’s what makes you unique and stand out from the other applicants!

@@channwaugh542 Can I ask one more thing? In my country all the universities, even the art ones, have a practical part (where u do design and do sculptures or whatever your major is) ,but also the theoretical part, where you learn through lectures about history of art and design, technology and stuff like that. Lukiz ! I’m glad this gave you a little insight - remember this is a 3rd year portfolio so may be more refined you might find yours more experimental if applying for 1st/2nd year.
