Is Sauder hard? How many hours do you usually study after class during weekdays in order to get a B or above? What is the first year GPA cut-off to move on to the second year?
@TheStewartGambit3 жыл бұрын
@@dlbai2278 very good questions! I think I’ll actually make a video of my opinion on whether it’s hard or not. I would say it varies depending on the time of the semester. Around finals, I would study 6 hours a day? Maybe more, maybe less. I probably study more than I need to. My average was an 85% in my first year. The “Sauder average” is 75% and you need to have an average of above 60% in order to continue to second year.

Hey Brendan! I also got into Sauder (2024) as well but was one of the lucky ones to get in straight out of high school. I am currently enrolled in the comp sci and business combined major or BUCS as it is known. I thought all your points hit the mark on what to do and I would like to share my insights on how I got in. Full disclosure, I am Domestic, in province student who attended a public school. Academically I was good at a 91.5 average in all my classes but in grade 10, my average was 86. However, I took no AP classes. I watched vids like these to educate myself on these topics and it helped. I was Student Council Co-Chair and was head treasurer of my school store, I’m willing to bet that helped my application. I also had a lot of luck along the way and I feel many ppl who get into these schools do, right place, right time. For essays, write something different for every prompt. Admissions officers cannot actually meet every student who apply so the essays are way to introduce yourself. Try to be unique but at the same time, be you. Essays are easier to write if they are the truth. Don’t be one dimensional. For example, if you play baseball, don’t write about baseball in every essay or even a majority of them. Show that there are many traits to you and you are in fact a person who does normal things and not what officers want to hear. For the interview, I practiced a lot with my laptop camera and I encourage others to do the same. You won’t know the questions but practising with sample ones would help. I submitted early admission on November 27 and didn’t get my admission letter till March 28 so being patient is critical. I can’t tell you how many times I felt worried because my friends got in before me. And lastly, if you don’t get into your dream school whether it’s Sauder or Rotman or wherever, so long as you are a good student, you will do well wherever you go. They did a study on this with kids who went to public and private schools in Chicago and the kids who went to public schools did just as well as the kids who went to private. I guess this is easier to say as a newly admitted Sauder student but it’s the truth. Those are my two cents and I hope to run into you Brendan on campus one day! 😂

I had some roommates who were in BUCS and I know a lot of people who are in BUCS. It’s going to be tough, but that program is so worth it if you can stick it out! Your gonna have a great time at UBC. Just to touch on that last note about public and private school. My sister went to a private school and graduated from Sauder last year. I went in a different route and went to public school and I am currently in Finance at Sauder. It’s not about where you come from, it’s about who you are.

Idk how to convert American grades into Canadian grades, but for year 11 my average is like 98% and year 12 is like 96%. But i'm graduating high-school with an associates degree of science so I'm taking over 5 AP classes and over 13 DC classes (DC is similar to AP, you get college credit). So from taking all of these college courses in high-school i'll have over 60 college hours. I'll have 200+ volunteer hours and I think i'll have 5 academic extra curriculars. Do I have good chances at getting accepted as an international student? I want to apply to the education major. And how likely is it to get a scholarship? International tuition is outrageous

I’m a 2nd year at Langara currently taking the Commerce transfer program to UBC/SFU. I’ve failed out of college in previous programs twice, therefore have a very interesting story to tell if universities will listen. I’ve finally found what my path and am looking to transfer next fall, but due to my shortcomings in the past I estimate my GPA will only be about 3.2-3.3 when I transfer. What’s your opinion how Sauder would view a person like me applying? Or would they just disregard me after seeing my transcript?
@TheStewartGambit3 жыл бұрын
Hi Henry, Sorry for the delay in my response. I think you have a very interesting story and if you were able to tell it in the right way, I think you stand a good chance. Remember that Sauder's application is weighted 50% grades and 50% personal profile. Someone with perfect grades and a bad personal profile can be rejected and someone with a great personal profile and average grades can be accepted. I think your story shows the amount of personal growth you have seen as well as some maturity. They will be able to look at your whole story and see that you have worked hard to get from where you were to where you are now and that is something they pay close attention to.

Hi Brendan! Thank you so much for this video!! I’m currently applying for universities and UBC Sauder has always been my top choice. I am super concerned about my grade 11 grades because I took IB for half a year in grade 11 and I dropped out of it, because I ended up getting a predicted 84 in IB English HL and an 80 in IB French SL. After I dropped, I took Pre Cal12 and Calculus 12 and got 98 and 90 and my other IB Courses that I took before were all 90+. In grade 10 i also took normal French 11 and I got 96. Do you think my low English mark will have screwed over my chances?

I'm in full IB and i got in like 2 days ago. What were your marks in terms of the IB scaling? out of 7? I doubt a single low mark will completely destroy your chances. I have an 81 in Pre Cal 12 lmao. I think its more about your extra curriculurs and activities alongside your marks.

Did you get into Queen's Commerce? If so, what made you decide to go to UBC instead?
@TheStewartGambit4 жыл бұрын
So, when I decided that I was going to transfer, my dream schools were Sauder at UBC or Rotman at UofT. I couldn't actually apply to UofT because Rotman only takes first year applicants, not transfers. So, I applied to UBC as my #1 choice, Queen's as my backup business school and then Western as a safety. I got into UBC before I heard back from Queens, so in that sense queen's response no longer mattered to me, but I actually did not get into Queen's and I didn't hear from them till July. I did hear through various forums that Queen's has very limited spots for transfer students and regardless of the rankings and standards, it is quite common for people who get into Sauder to get rejected from Queen's.

English is one of the main things they consider. I finished with a 68 in English 12. Now mind you, I transferred into second-year and had a 4.0 in college but still, they do look at these things. Hi Ali, I think a good place to start would be which class was that D in? If it was Math or English, then this could be a problem. Both of those classes are closely looked at, as they are very important for Sauder. Also, remember that Sauder's application is weighted 50% grades and 50% personal profile. Someone with perfect grades and a bad personal profile can be rejected and someone with a great personal profile and average grades can be accepted. So my other question is, do you have a strong personal profile?

Hi Vaibhav, In my opinion high 80's to low 90's would put you in the competitive range. However, this is all circumstantial. People will an excellent personal profile can get away with having lower grades. Remember, because Sauder weighs your application 50/50 based on your grades and personal profile, there are many different ways to compensate for a part of your application that might not be as competitive.

@TheStewartGambit3 жыл бұрын
Hi there, Aside from academics, I would say one of the biggest things would be the people that go there. You'r going to meet so many bright minded people from all over the world. This really helps broaden your understanding of different cultures. I think another big thing would be the opportunities that you have at UBC. UBC has a very strong social life and you will have the opportunity to join basically any kind of club or sports team you can think of. We also have greek life if that is something you'r interested in. Also, Vancouver is a beautiful city with a wide array of activities that you can do. So in summary, the people, social life, clubs, athletics, and location are some great reasons to choose UBC.

I got 2 personal questions, but they always switch it up. I signed into the website where you are supposed to do your interview. They let you set up a test run where you make sure your camera and mic are working. Then when you go for your real run, there is a video recording of someone asking you a question, they give you a short amount of time to gather your thoughts, and then I believe its 2 mins to answer. When you are done you can hit stop, if you are earlier than the 2 mins. At the end you are given a link that you must post in your personal profile. Hope this helps.

Hi there, The simple answer is no, I don't think this will screw you over. This was only grade 11 calculus and while it is important to get good grades, they are only half of your application. I think it's also important to know that they pay attention to the trends in your grades. So if you were to get something like a 92 in Pre Calc 12, this would show an improvement and would paint the picture that you are putting in the effort to progress as a student and get better. Which is more important to them than someone who only gets 100 or someone who got 100 in Pre Calc 11 and then an 85 in Pre Calc 12. Hope this helps.
