@ZeitlinBrothers It's been a wild ride. I went to college for a year and a half. I then moved away from home to get some space. I worked for Pepsi, Amazon, a Farm, and a Zoo. My last 2 jobs have been in sales, with a merchant services company and now with a car lot. The car lot is treating me horribly, so I'm actually quitting today. Yay! Life's beautiful, but it's a mess.

Jesse, You're a true inspiration! I started as a labor 3 years ago and love construction so much I worked 7 days a week for 18 months to keep learning and doing. Made it to a lull operator in 3 months then assistant super In 7 months and finally after all the ups and downs became a framing superintendent. all within that 18 month time frame. It's not for everyone but if you give yourself small goals to reach in a realistic time frame anything is possible. Now in 2019 as a framing business owner and master carpenter its definitely way different from being an "employee". But I dont regret any of the bad because God was and still is with me as I build my brand and life everyday. It also makes you more aware of how being the best you makes people want you more. I'm blessed to have a wonderful wife who believes in me when I dont belive in myself at times. And when you least expect it God is patiently waiting for your next move. Knock on those doors till one opens and get up no matter how many times you fail.

Im 22 , about to turn 23. I live in las Vegas NV so I've grown up seeing construction all around me and I love it. I went to a magnet school where my major was architecture, something that I wish I could've persuaded but do to economic circumstances I was not able to follow that dream. While I was in high school I had a part time job at shop where we built anything from custom kitchens, bars, restaurants, casinos, you name it. My first job out of high was structural steel out of state which I think is probably my favorite job because I just loved being in heights and welding. After that I came back home and got a job in carpentry again, this time with remodels. I liked it but I didnt feel I wasnt going to go anywhere with the company so I looked for another job. So I became a plant labor with one of the largest concrete providers in the US, calportland to be exact. There I didnt everything, learned to operated heavy equipment like wheel loaders and excavators, again I felt like I needed more so I became a mixer driver for them. I asked my plant manager to let me do more and earn more. Withing a week of the "go for it" I gave them my class A permit, and by the next two weeks when they had processed my paper work that I wasnt a labor anymore and now going to be a driver i handed them my actual class A drivers license. It's been a year since I started driving and again, I feel like it's probably not enough and now I want to get a contractor's license and start my own construction company. I just dont know how or where to start to get my contractors license.

Good luck & I hope you do great things. We out here.

What did they do, hold the door open for you? Just kidding, I got mine at 23 but a subcontractor license, but on a serious note it’s interesting how in some states becoming a general contractor or contractor is like a bowl of candy,as described by the wonderful (cough cough) members on the California licensing board, any one can do it, take for example Washington Ohio Maine Vermont or Texas , while in California or Nevada, you gotta do a circus stunt to get that license, since their requirements are most onerous than others , level the playing field and make the industry uniform, equally regulated as the White House executive order in 2015 on occupational licensing required of state lawmakers

Hey Jesse, I was looking at your video of how you got your contractors license. I'm in the same spot you were a couple years ago, I've been doing construction since I was 15 and right now I'm 21. I own my own handyman business now and I'm a little bit worried because I'm doing jobs over $500 all the time, and I know that's a violation to the law here in California. I want to get my own contractors license (I called a contractors school once and they told me I was going to get denied because of my age), I got the experience, and I have some years in that I can prove with payroll checks, but some other years I was paid cash. Do you think I just need to go for it and spend $1,000 in application fees and school? It's a lot of money and I don't want to get denied. What do you recommend? BTW awesome videos dude!

I’m 25. Dad is an illegitimate contractor and I’m tired of him paying the same wage for the past 3 years without a raise. It seems my dad doesn’t want to see me create wealth or own my own business, he still says I’m not ready, however he doesn’t know what he’s talking about because he is not licensed in anyway and I’ve never seen him pull a permit or even type a single appraisal, meaning he doesn’t know what “ready” is. I want to respectively leave his work and start my own. I have over 5 years doing everything except heating/air and extensive electrical. I’m hoping I can start a new business when I move to a different town in TEXAS soon. I don’t think the requirements for being a contractor in Texas are as intense as Florida, but I know there is a lot to becoming legit and making more than $30,000 a year as you say. This was super motivating and I can’t wait to make this dream a reality like you did. But for real get out of that dated ass room you’re doing the video in 😂 jk brother

I am 21 years old and have no experience with my hands. Is it necessary to begin my career as a contractor with prior trades experience (Carpentry/plumbing/masonry) and if so, which trades would you recommend learning?
@Jesse_Lane6 жыл бұрын
Yes! I would highly recommend learning every trade. To be a successful general contractor, you need to understand the entire process of construction. Although, there is nothing wrong with becoming a speciality contractor! (Electrician, Plumber etc.) :)

I'm 41 and I'm impressed. I've been in construction for 25 years. Started with the family business at 16. Went on to bigger companies and have been a PM/ Estimator for a mid size DOD contractor for the last 8.5 years and the GM for the last 5. I'm studying for my GC (KB1) license in Arizona. I think about it everyday, I should pray about it more though. I've streamlined our company around management of subcontractors. We only self perform electrical under our C11. Employees are very expensive, especially when work is slow. Good Subs are getting harder and harder to find as well though...
