Hello Ms. Ingrid! First of all, I loved your informative and helpful video. I do have a question like the other commenters here. Why is Master's degree crucial in getting a Canadian teaching license? If I correctly read the information guide provided by OCT (and the teaching authorities in other Canadian provinces like Newfound & Labrador), the academic requirement is Bachelor's Degree in Educ, and the Professional Credential requirements are Philippine teaching license, Statement of Professional Standing and Certification of English as a Medium of Instruction. 1. Getting a Masters degree from your home country is crucial to equate their curriculum here since their high school here is 6 years and ours in the Phils is just 4 years (before K to 12). 2. Yes, you're right. But those are just the basic requirements. They will still ask for other supporting docs depending on what you have entered in your application form.

Hi Ingrid, Marecel Schafer here, You and me the same Journey in Canada amazing! I did the same thing you did. All I thought before was all true about rumours that we all go back to zero , that our Curriculum here and in Philippines are different and yes it’s different but look where we are right now, we both made it! I was a Registered Elementary Teacher also in Philippines for 11 years before I got my Permanent Visa here in Canada. I was like you, I started my job right away as Level 1 DayCare Teacher and after 1 month, Government of Alberta Sent me another Level 3 Supervisor Certificate and then after 2 years of working I got promoted Last Month as DayCare Assistant Director Nothing is impossible in this world. Just go go go pursue our dreams 🥰

Hello Grace... I just don't know the guidelines for teaching re-certification in B.C. coz as I mentioned in the video, it varies by province. In the Ontario College of Teachers, the basic requirements are: *have completed a minimum three-year postsecondary degree from an acceptable postsecondary institution. *have successfully completed a four semester teacher education program. *if you are an internationally educated teacher, you should already have your teaching license from your home country. Better visit the website of the Ministry of Education in BC to be sure.

Hi Gem... thanks much for that question kasi I forgot to mention that in the video. Math Proficiency Test is the OCT's newest certification requirement. This is for those applicants who complete their application on or after March 31, 2020. I'm just so lucky to barely made it before the due date because they granted me with my certification on March 10. ( hope I answer your question po. )

Hi Heidy, I'm sorry to confuse you... Its not necessary to have a Canadian experience for the OCT to grant you the license. It depends on the result of the assessment of your credentials. What I meant to say is that, when youre already here in Canada and youre still waiting for the result of the certification, it would be better to apply in a teaching related job so that by the time youre already granted with your certification and you want to apply in the public school here, youll already have a real Canadian working experience that is relevant to your profession. :)

Hi, thanks for the tip on finishing the Masters of Education in Special Education to get additional certification. I am currently filling out the online application form for the license. I was wondering if there was a section that allowed you to say "currently pursuing" due to complete in May 2022. Or wait until I am officially finished. I also wanted to know what happened after you got your certification. How did you go about applying for a job. Have you found there are jobs available? I am concerned they make you start your teaching years from zero as a temporary teacher or assistant teacher with low salary even if you exempted from doing additional units for certification.

To apply for a teaching license here, you have to submit all your credentials to the licensing body in the respective province youre gonna be when you get here. Theyre the ones to assess your qualifications. If theyre gonna grant you the license right away or give you some conditions.
