For those who are late for work, generally impatient or just don't like stories, you can skip ahead to 14:58 in the video to find out how I managed to get on a ferry that I didn't have a ticket for. This is my last video from Greece. Next video will be from a new country. You can see where on my Instagram: instagram.com/p/CSuRUsgs5R4/

Hi Gabriel, probably the reason all the ferries were booked was because August 15th is a holiday. The feast of the Virgin Mary. That probably also explains the church scene with the bread. Many Athenians vacation in the month of August to the islands during that major religious holiday. When I visited Thessaloniki 16 years ago our friends showed us the neighborhood where many jewish families lived to escape persecution from the rest of Europe (especially Spain). We also visited Pella and the tombs of Alexander the Great and family members in Vergina. It was amazing. I have many relatives in Greece and am hoping to go visit again soon. We took a train from Thessaloniki to Athens. I remember passing Larissa and Lamia. That may be a nice way to get around next time. It takes 5 hours but was very relaxing. Thanks for all the wonderful videos especially from the islands.

I am hooked on your videos. I don't know how many I watched in the past two days! It is fascinating to see a visitor fascinated by little things the native doesn't even notice. I love your genuine curiosity, explorer's mindset, acute attention to detail, objectivity, spontaneity, honesty, and all those many little errors and wrong guesses about history or mythology, most of which you care to correct with subtitles. We can find beautiful nature and interesting architecture everywhere in the world. What Greece specifically has to offer, is its long and influential history - with its ups and downs - its language, its cuisine, and the attitude of its people to social life: nothing is possible at the start but becomes possible with dialog. You have elegantly shown this attitude on at least two occasions (bicycle on the bus and, here, the ferry ticket). The ugly graffiti of Thessaloniki (also Athens and other big cities) is almost certainly one of the consequences of the latest economic crisis that hits urban centers for more than 10 years now. We Greeks are ashamed of both, the causes and effects of this crisis. I hope some government will manage to channel this energy of the kids in a more creative direction. Meanwhile, you know it, Thessaloniki has been the "second city in our old western world", next to Athens, Rome, Constantinople, Istambul, or Jerusalem, from its foundation by Cassander of Macedon (315 BC) to the early 20th century. Remains of this brilliant past can be found every 100 meters walk among the modern residences, and everywhere we dig (e.g., the metro). The monuments are an integral part of the cityscape and life. The dishes also reflect this cosmopolitan past. You have managed to show a few examples with great skill. Your Rotunda images, and music, bring an emotional climax to your superficially unrelated story and tell to the viewer exactly what to expect when visiting this place. I hope you will return many times to show us more of this magic city and country. Bravo!

Yes, it is already known that Gabriel was in Poland for the last week in the Schengen Zone before 90-days limit is gone for him. But after that (maybe Eastern Europe, not in the Schengen Zone) it is only guessing for now. I remember how Gabriel has already been to the Ukraine and Belarus but never in Russia. How he has already been to Serbia, Albania, Montenegro and North Macedonia. Of course, only to some places and it is still more to be seen there. So, if it is not Russia, maybe he is changing the continent ...
