An hour a week of ‘life advice’ in schools would be great. Much better than those ‘career advisors’.
@ameerk3005 жыл бұрын
Fin career advisors in school were the worst! Why would you ever take career advice from someone who chose to be a fucking career advisor!
@mezmanmerrill74125 жыл бұрын
The career advisor in my high school was absolutely useless. They said a lot without saying nothing every session she would get you to talk about what you want to do and obviously you don’t know being a 15 year old lad all your thought process is hiding the boner that appeared out of nowhere and how you will whoop your mate of COD and Fifa come 3:30pm. After 1 hour of talking about what you want to do she says a stock answer about work hard in school to keep your options open and talk to someone in the role you want. Much rather of learned budgeting strategies and basic investments something that can be helpful.

Everyone wants the newest things to impress people who don't care. I could buy the new iPhone for 800 pound to impress my friend for 5 seconds or I could buy a 200 pound phone that works does the exact same job. I could buy a brand new Audi on finance for 30k or I could buy a second hand one for 5k. People think that retaining their self image is important however having no debt is a lot better. No stress no sleepless nights no calls from debt collectors. If you ever get into debt say 10k you get off your ass and work. Even a minimum wage job any job you can find. Work 80-100 hours a week you'll be debt free in no time. You might think that's a lot of work but the work ethic in the uk is a lot less slack than other countries. If you work 12 hours a day you still have 12 hours of work for rest.

I was lucky enough to go to a school where they taught us all about this stuff in a class that was mandatory for all sophomores (10th graders for non US folk) called "Personal Finance and Money Management". I just recently found out that some of my late-20s and early-30s coworkers knew less about how credit works and how to maintain a good credit score than me (I'm 20). I really hope that more and more school's start offering courses like "personal finance" or "career planning" and stuff like that which seriously helps kids be better prepared for the real world. Especially for the people who don't go to college/tech/uni after highschool and end up going straight into the workforce and adult life.

Debt in the UK is very common and most British adults have debts. In fact, it is estimated that the average UK household debt is around £15,400. Being a few thousand pounds in debt isn't really a huge issue, it's when the debst start to get big, like 20k or 30k or 40k in debt. These debts can be huge barriers for those on low incomes.

very ballsy and transparent (per usual) content BVM. so much truth behind this. for many inc me it takes time to learn. this is gospel advice. we wouldn't be in a recession had this spread 12 years ago. if your debt has been passed over to a DCA: demand a copy of the original CCA agreement. failure of proof within 14 days plus postage renders it unenforceable.

You come and saved me in my nightmare last night lol 😂 Thankyou BVM I'm even dreaming about you now.

The issue with my generation, under 30 is that they are trapped by social media bragging and “you’re only young once”. So many people walking around looking rich with amazing lives on social media when really they are in so much debt, society would rather be broke but look rich than rich and look poor .. buying shit they don’t need to brag to people they don’t care about

I wanted to say this but ran out of time. Might do a follow up on this point.

Absolutely love this video. Too right. Kids should be taught about more real life things at school.

I'm 27, nearly ended my life three years ago due to mounting debt which was only the icing on the cake. I'm down from 7k debt to just under 2k now. I got rid of my financed car and I take the bus everywhere. I'm focused on saving, if not for myself then for my Son who I get to see only one hour a week. Your video was truly motivational. I like your no nonsense style of language, there's intelligence in your words

Mate, glad you have managed to turn things around. Take pride that you took this debt by the scruff of the neck and sorting it. Believe me when I say this will help you in later life. You will value things more when you buy things out right. And fortunately you will be able to teach what you have learnt how to handle money. Merry Christmas and I wish you all the best.

@@BlueVanMan Thank you mate. For you to respond to internet folk shows your true humility. I'm working two jobs at the mo, main is in HR and side job driving buses. But you're very correct in what you say, the education system fails a lot of youngsters, even in the generation I grew up. They told me I was not clever enough to do gcse science despite my keen interest. My whole life's direction was steered a completely different path by one teacher. Incredible isn't it? Merry Christmas to you & your family

I almost got there. Gettin' rid of the fancy car right now. Working towards owning rental property. They don't teach you self-sufficiency and responsibility with your money. They don't teach you about money-making assets. They just teach you how to get a job and be a consumer.
