WHY I DON’T SHARE MY ETSY SHOP: This is a question that I get a lot, so I thought I would mention it: The reason why I don’t share my shop name/link is because of my conversion rate. I know a lot of you want to check out my shop out of curiosity to see what I sell, how many sales I have… The problem with that is since you are checking it out because you are curious, you wouldn’t actually be interested in my products. That will result in a very low conversion rate. Low conversion rate = Etsy Search will stop giving me a good ranking As Etsy sellers, we need to always prioritize our conversion rate. If you have a low percentage, then Etsy will stop showing your listings to shoppers. Here are a few details I can give about my Etsy shop: As of right now (08/30) I have -25,150 sales -3,100 reviews - I sell baby shower and bridal shower decorations **If you want sneak peaks of my Etsy shop and products, make sure to follow me on Instagram @femalesconnection I am always sharing my business over there

Thank you so much for this video, it is exactly what I needed to hear! My Etsy store has been open less than a week, but I've poured so much time into my SEO and making sure everything was complete. I got 2 sales in my first day and nothing since, so I've been really stressed with getting seen on social media to divert traffic to my shop, and OH MY GOD is it a nightmare. I was left feeling so deflated because I was spending SO much time plugging social media instead of designing new products that I completely lost focus. Think I'll be spending most of my free time making new items to list instead, I started with 32 and I am now up to 48, so still a long way to go to reach whatever the magic number is.

Etsy was a very different platform 7 years ago, compared to what it has become. The competition is way way higher so there are fewer chances for your beginner shop to be visible. Which means that in today's business landscape, social media is not really optional. It's become a must, although changes in algorithms everywhere are slowing small businesses down.

I make crochet baskets...they take a long time to make so I only have about 12 listings. However, most of my products have about 16 colour options which I list as a variable under the listing. Would it be best to have each colour option listed as a seperate listing in order to boost the number of listings? The reason why I haven't done this before is because I thought there would be more chance of getting a best seller badge if they are all listed under one and also because I have limited funds and storage space to make one up in each colour so I make to order. I have made enough now that I have got photos of most colours though so I could list each colour separately.

My tip is, try to find more creative and most of all efficient ways to boost up the listing number of your shop. Imagine those numbers, with you handcrafting all your wares. You'd need more hands! It's possible to sell vintage finds and print on demand on Etsy too.

Question about your tip for listing often. My products take a long time to make. So I don’t foresee myself having 2000 listings. Is there something you suggest to compensate for that?
@giuliaruozzi3 жыл бұрын
I totally understand that for some sellers the strategy of listing often may not work. My biggest advice for that is to instead of adding variations to one listing, list those variations separately. For example, if you sell handmade coffee tables. Let's say you have a black, dark brown, and white option. Instead of doing on listing as "coffee table" and adding the variations, you could list "black coffee table" "dark brown coffee table" and "white coffee table" all separately. So instead of having one listing, you have three listings. This could be an option for you, but it is not a must! Do what feels right and what you think would be best for your business :)
@butubuta3 жыл бұрын
Thank you, Please, make a video on that. Also, how to print, add,... the CSV pages. As you know, they are so wide to fit on one-page width. For those of us without Excel knowledge, it's very challenging.

I made a sale with 28,61€ and Etsy earned 5,20€ from that. In my opinion it's quite a lot. Isn't it? (Listing fees: 0,63€ - Transaction fees: 1,91€ - Processing fees: 1,66€ - VAT on seller fees: 1,00€) Thanks :) Natali

Maybe you can customize, give people more options, for example when selling soaps, soap can be made in infinite number of ways, so changing color or style of your products, you can make 20-ish or more variations.
@kerim.peardon55512 жыл бұрын
I've seen three different tips. One, is if you have multiple color options of the same thing (like a t-shirt design on several different colors of shirt), make a listing, copy it, then make a different colored shirt the thumbnail. So, if you offer a shirt in 6 colors, you will have 6 listings, one for each color. (You can still have all the color variations available in each listing so people can easily and quickly compare options.) This way, if someone is specifically looking for a black shirt, they won't automatically dismiss your design just because the thumbnail pic is a red shirt. Secondly, copy listings and change up your title, keywords, and/or pics. A lot of people do this to test their SEO and see which listing gets the most traffic. You could also do this if you wanted to try out different packaging options; have the exact same listing, but pictures in one of packaging A and pics in the other of packaging B and see if one performs better than the other. Thirdly, if you make handmade things, you can offer bulk packs or sample sets and each of those combos is its own listing. (Unfortunately, not a thing you can do with print-on-demand, but it is something you can do with printables.)
@NebulaHolistic-jc2yd3 жыл бұрын
When it comes to the amount of listings we have, how do those of us who do print on demand get to 200 products when the amount of products these pod companies have is limited and your store on etsy is niche?

Etsy has actually said that they rank shops that have free shipping higher. So I do think it helps! We offer free shipping on purchases of $35+ :)
@penelopesparrow3 жыл бұрын
Etsy does not prioritise listings with free shipping - they once did but they didn't find it profitable. If your customer is someone who responds well to free shipping it will benefit you in convincing them to buy, so in that sense you'd rank higher because of it, but it's not a part of the algorithm. Etsy ranks based mostly on what sells.
@giuliaruozzi3 жыл бұрын
@@penelopesparrow hey Penelope! Actually Etsy does rank shops that have free shipping higher. @penelopesparrow3 жыл бұрын
@@giuliaruozzi Etsy say a lot of things that don't seem to be true, like having an about page and banner etc helps - but I've lost count of the amount of people top in page 1 that have none of it. The evidence I've seen is that FS doesn't mean you'll rank over everyone who doesn't offer it. In my searches I see people ranking top of page 1 without it; in a search just now for 'beaded bracelet', 5 of the top 8 are 'popular now' and only 1 is free shipping. If it does contribute, it's more of a last resort option than anything else, IMO. What seems to help most is conversion which we control to an extent with great photos and offering a product people searching those terms actually want.

Could you share your store please?? Thanks so much!

Hey girl I just made a comment on this, here it is: "This is a question that I get a lot, so I thought I would mention it: The reason why I don’t share my shop name/link is because of my conversion rate.

What is the name of your etsy store?
@nickivlachou31172 жыл бұрын
Hello, why don't you put a link to your etsy shop? Maybe one of us here on youtube want to buy something from your etsy-shop. I don't understand why people who talk about their success with their sales at etsy actually don't put a link to their own etsy shop.
@giuliaruozzi2 жыл бұрын
Hi Nicki! That is a great question. The reason why we don't have our Etsy link is because we don't want to decrease our conversion rate. I love creating content that will help other Etsy sellers, but my KZbin audience is not my Etsy target market. 90% of the people that watch my videos will click on my Etsy shop out of curiosity, not because they are interested in my products. When a lot of people visit my Etsy shop, but they don't purchase anything, my conversion rate will decrease, meaning that my ranking will be affected. Hope this answers your question :)

@@giuliaruozzi O.k., I understand. I see other creators, that have an etsy shop, too, and their sales increased because of their youtube channel. But they don't have a website like you and they don't sell products on their webseite.
@nickivlachou31172 жыл бұрын
@@giuliaruozzi Are you sure about that? "The Cottage Fairy" increased her sales on etsy BECAUSE of her videos on youtube.

@@nickivlachou3117 but her KZbin audience would be the same as her shop audience. A KZbin channel *about* selling on Etsy would have a different audience than the people buying their products

Maybe this video is relevant if you are watching it in 2017 or 2018. In 1990's I barely used an internet. And so? It's long gone. I still liked though and subscribed.

Did you need to get a business license before selling and did etsy send you a 1099-k at the end of the year for tax purposes?
@giuliaruozzi3 жыл бұрын
Etsy doesn't require you to have a business license in order to open your Etsy shop, but I recommend that you look into it. And Etsy will send you a 1099-k if you made more than a certain amount. They just changed that amount to $600 in one year

I am thinking not all your products are handmade by you which is sad. I thank you for the information. Etsy is not the same platform that it was intended to be (for handmade sellers).

Everyone said Pintrest would help so much, but I haven't gotten anything from it yet. Maybe someday. FB def doesnt help- (PPl stalk what I am up to I feel like). SEO is so important but everyone teaches it differently lol.

200?! TWO HUNDRED! I currently have 6 listings lol It takes a good amount of time to create the items that I sell (Website templates). Guess I better put a plan together to add a new template a week to get closer to that number. Yikes.

I always like to emphasize that it is not overnight! It took me 8 years to get to where I am, and it takes years for a business to grow. When I said 200 listings, I dont expect anyone to have that within months, it takes time. Building and growing a business takes a long time. “It’s a slow process, but quitting won’t speed it up” Good luck 🤍 and Im always here if you need any help

Your photos are amazing. How do you photograph them? Getting on the first 3 or 4 pages of Etsy listings is hard. Not even with items that are ads appear on those pages. FREE SHIPPING do not get you on the first page. What I have learned is long tail keywords and categories that are less than 50,000 views will work better. The amount of product that one carries in their shops is dependent on what you sale, whether it's mass produced, or is it handmade. My items are hand cut and are one of a kind so I am not striving for 3 or 400 products listing. I also am not striving for heavy traffic because with my experience I have never had over 50 views and even lesser visits, but have earned over $500.00 worth of sales. I agree good customer service is a must, which is the main motivator of clients returning and making more purchases. I've never understood the "story telling"; how it motivates the buyer to purchase products. Everybody's story is not pretty nor interesting. In conclusion, all the tips you are giving are great, but those of us who have tried them already and still are not progressing as they feel they should, oftentimes are discouraged rather than encouraged.

Our digital products are all mockups and our banners we take the pictures. My biggest advice is to use natural light and adjust the brightness using an app or a program - we use photoshop, but lightroom is a great app and it's free! These tips that I talked about during the video are all things that I've tried and they worked for me. I can only give you guys advice on things that I have tried. I would love to help you and other Etsy sellers by providing more information and answering questions that you have! Is there a specific topic that you would like me to talk about? Or do you have any questions that I can answer? Trust me, I know how hard and frustrating it can be! Starting a business (regardless if it is Etsy or not) is rough, I get it! I want to help as much as I can, so please let me know if you have any questions :)
