I played 50 years ago and we really did not have all this information. Back then it was you either had it or you did not. Lol And sometime you had it and next time I was looking for it and when that was the case I was getting the crap knocked out of my pitches. My problem was consistency. I could be lights out one time and the next time walk 9 guys. Anyway I appreciate the information and while I can no longer use it it’s fascinating to be able to learn and understand! Thank you

Maybe that’s why my two seam was slightly faster than my 4 seam. I’m 18 and my two seam was topping out at 71-72 and 4 seam at 69-70 Ik that seems slow for my age but I’m still trying work back from a ucl sprain and have lingering damage from a previous non baseball related injury to my ac joint

I’m 13, I’ve been throwing 71-76 with my 4 seam, and my two seam is basically the same. I don’t know why, but I keep the same grip on different seams.

For spin I like to use my entire body weight on the ball not just using my arm. Some pitchers tend to just swing their arms and forget to add the bending down to follow it through. I tend to release the ball higher than usual since I also tend to use my body more than swinging the arm

It feels more secure if the end of the middle finger is on the inside of the horseshoe. Don't know why.

I always intuitively felt that my finger closer together gave me more spin. But was always coached not to do that

I feel like there is a tipping point, where up to a certain finger spread there is no difference and then all of a sudden you start to lose velo. Like you can't convince me that fingers pressed together vs 1 finger width impacts velo at all. I just don't think that tradeoff is real. However once you get wide enough that the ball starts to press your fingers apart instead of backwards, at that point you're losing velo.

What I find funny about my 2 seam is I throw it with that grip for the opposite reason most people throw 2 seams. The point of a 2 seam is that you have less finger on the seam and you get more movement but I put my whole finger tips on the 2 seams because a get a better grip on the ball. It's basically the same as a 4 seam though

What if I’m only 5’6” at 26 years old and have long skinny fingers… I don’t plan on going pro obviously but I’d like to be able to throw better.. I just have really skinny fingers so if I try to get my fingers centered on the center of mass of the ball then my 2 seam fast ball won’t move like I can get it to right now but I’d like to be able to throw harder
