@@5150GringoGarage I have used steel toggle bolts plenty of times for TV brackets. I put it where I want it and make the marks. Then I drill small holes and check if I hit studs or hollow space. Wherever I hot studs I use wood screws and wherever I hit empty space I use toggle bolts. If I hit block or concrete I use tapcons. You don't need to hit studs or reinforce for a little 20 pound TV or even heavier. Just use enough of the right anchors and you're good.

This method is ok when using regular flush mounts,fixed positions mounts,or tilt mounts. You shouldn't use these anchors with a full motion mount because when fully extended out gravity pulls it forward and will eventually start to give. In this case the tv is light enough where he will probably be ok. Once again this method is only recommended when using regular fixed position mounts not on full motion mounts.

Would a full motion mounted 65" 25kg TV be a problem IF you managed to get one of the stubs to support the load. The other metal plasterboard screws would have to go directly into plasterboard only. Much appreciated in advance and thanks for your videos!! The TV would very rarely be extended away from the wall, more so angled at one end rather than fully off the wall to prevent too much strain on the wall

Oh, an option if the location of the base for the desired location of the tv , no studs can be found, then, you can set a piece of nice finished plywood from stud to stud, fasten it to the studs and wall, then, put the mount on the piece of plywood,(wood will not fail when wet (at least not suddenly)), that way it is more secure, little more work, but if it is a big heavy tv/mount and it goes out of the wall, if better to do the extra work and not having to repair the whole thing in case of failure..
@brendanfarthing3 жыл бұрын
The words of a pro. This is exactly how it should be done if centering between studs is an issue. Studs should be 16" apart. Drywall anchors shouldn't be used most of the time, especially for large TV's. And drywall anchors weight ratings are for pure downward force (like hanging a picture frame), not for levered outward/downward force like on that swivel wall mount.

I rehab houses, hard to tell if the drywall will be strong enough over time. It could have been patched up by a previous tenant, it could have cracks, or could get wet. Drywall over time especially on an outside wall could disintegrate. Easy to cut out drywall between studs and and install couple 2x4s backings. Finish and paint to match, no one could have known.
