Thank you so much. Lately, I just felt so.. stuck. I didn't think of learning back from tutorials, but instead, I had just wallowed in my own misery because I wasn't 'Very talented for my age' anymore. Seeing artists who were younger than me draw so much better, it upsetted me deeply. With this video, I learned a lot more of what I felt was missing so much; my composition. I now understand that, as a self-taught artist, I was too naive when I was young to learn more about these things since I thought it was 'boring' and 'too complicated'. I feel like i can finally let go of my resentment of others, and to focus on improving my art. Again, thank you.

I've been drawing semi-seriously since I was 17 (23 now) and, throughout the process, art has never felt very satisfying, for me, so I understand. However, I'd recommend looking at the art from around the time you started (if you didn't throw them away or delete them lel) and see how your art has changed since then. Small changes over time go unnoticed, but you'll likely see that you've definitely, definitely improved in tons of aspects! :3

I completely understand the desire to improve as quickly as possible. I'm an animation student, our school doesn't teach shxt, and I constantly feel like my career is at stake, so for the longest time I've had this anxiety forcing myself to improve, But, I'm alive and well and there are 3 things I want to tell you. 1. Everyone burns out at some point, there are just times a person can't do what they want to do, don't rush. 2. In my experience the best way to learn art is to learn a professional's drawing process. I'm an animation student, I love anime, I draw anime-styled characters, and I learnt that holy shxt, there are a crap ton of process when just drawing a single illustration and even some professionals take over 10 hrs to draw them, sketching, line art, color rough, re-drawing line art, different layer options and adjustment options, they use them all. 3. I know it seems a lot, but if you are dead set on your goal, you will achieve it one way or the other. You can do it. bless you

And all of this for free 😭 years ago it was such a pain as a self taught artist to find tutorials like these (at least for me, especially when I wasn't able to speak english), it's wonderful to see more tutorials, guides and videos pop out like these which are a better help than some art schools or classes could ever be. What I love the most is that you show your own struggles as well along with your solutions, this helps a lot to understand and learn! Can't wait to try out this guide and pump up my own compositions! @@sleepingbathtub8477 thanks you're sweet :) the point about having experience artists correct my mistakes is a good one. Sadly none still did it despite uploading my flaws on KZbin. @@sael5084 I just found your comment and I want you to know that every art journey is different. That's what makes it so unique to everybody. There's no right or wrong -like a lot of people on the internet want you to think about-. Some learn faster, some slower. Some have a deeper understanding from the beginning, some need more practice. I know how painful it gets sometimes, especially when you're in a slump. Everyone's work seems so much better, which only brings you further down. It's really hard, but the next time something doesn't work out or you generally feel "bad" about it, try to analyze your feelings. Why didn't it end up how you imagined? Anatomy, colors, layout, vibe... etc. You can do this too with art you DO enjoy! Pick out the features you like and incorporate it into your own work :). Best of luck, your feelings are valid

I think they followed their instinct and ended up analysing and planning it too. I unknowingly learned all the things the video talks about by seeing and analysing what looked wrong with my drawings and tried to keep that in mind the next time I drew. I didn't know composition was a thing but the process of learning was very similar and I ended up doing it just following my instincts. I did learn a bit about the why and stuff from the video though that I wouldn't have been able to describe why it looked better

a lot of them definitly did not just paint with their instinct. We know for sure that a lot of artists followed the guide lines on compositions. Those theories are really old and the further you go in art history the more you can see how many principles artists found over the years.

one of my favorite artists, chris hong, who has an youtube channel, talks about her process in some of her videos. It seems her decisions are very deliberate, based in years of studying. I do feel some do it naturally, though. I remember seeing interviews with Kim Jung Gi and I think he couldn't very well explain why he made his illustrations in the way he did. He just had a natural composition instict. may he rest in peace

Neat video, I feel like many artists (including myself) often prioritize making a pretty well drawn artwork which usually causes us to forget about composition and even storytelling. Would love to see you talking more in depth about such important aspects. Getting a bit off topic here, but the lack of these two aspects (Composition and storytelling) are the reason why most if not all AI generations look so dull, sure the generation can be pretty but lifeless at the same time.

The AI looks good when paired with photography that utilizes good composition. There is a photographer who uses AI to add everything from characters to cloths and setting but he builds the images around a reference he has photographed and edits them to look more seamless. It's actually pretty beautiful.

Honestly thank you so much! I did one illustration that I just can't seem to top for a while even though I am challenging myself and don't know what to work on anymore so this is a life saver! Thank you for putting this together for free on here, never saw anyone tackle composition like this!

This is probably the most insightful art video I've watched in a long time ;0; I really struggle with my illustrations looking boring and static- and I've always wanted to learn proper composition, but I haven't been able to understand it very well until I saw this video. Thank you so much 😭😭😭🫶

Ughh I can’t thank you enough for making this video. I just didn’t know what step to take on getting better. I pretty much just screenshot Pinterest pictures and referenced it and lost my passion because of that. This has inspired me to get my sketchbook out again!

I think this is what has been lacking in my art that is making it so difficult for me to realize my ideas. I didn’t have words for it before but this basically covers that frustration I’ve been having. I know colors and how to draw something, but somehow my art always looks a bit messy even if I paint things how I want them to look and it’s because the composition didn’t feel cohesive to me.

Absolutely love this!!! It is relatable, easy to follow, and very informative. I have been in a funk. I always feel like I get stuck with composition, and I didn't know where to go next. I would give up. But this has given me to much inspiration! Thank you for posting this. You just gained a new sub! :)
