As usual, another great video, Mike. You’re such a natural communicator, we forget you’re just talking to a camera! The information is terrific, and the great things you show us don’t seem impossible to replicate-which is a big relief. Your fish room looks like it belongs to a normal human. I’ve gotten a group of friends-all ages-to watch. One is inspired to come back to the hobby after-wait for it-35 years!😳 We’re all planning a pond setup day using your vids. Thank you again! (Even the spouses have given approval-limited-no fish rooms--but all good.) please keep nerding out! You’re an inspiration! 👌🤜🤛🎉🙏🙏👏🤙

I liked all of this including the extended blu ray cut. Keep us posted on those aqua huna shiners! I have myself a little patio pond and 4 2.5 gallon tanks on the fish shelf getting all seasoned for some baby fish.

[Insert supportive comment here] I love this channel, just super fish-nerdy and Mike is awesome. Also Iron test kits exist, but they are very expensive and lab grade as iron in aquariums is always in very small amounts.

My mini pond is at the entrance of my garden. I got a Beach umbrella 🏖️ the water was reading 91 degrees. Most definitely using a frozen bottle of water to cool the pond down. Two bubblers going none stop . I have water growing like crazy they have monster roots. Love the video thank you so much for sharing.

Have you ever tried to glue micro pebbles/sand to the inside of your pond containers? I’ve seen you put sand at the bottom of the containers to create visibility. Not sure how that would look but I’m trying to do a pond for my patio.

Funny I get down voted on Reddit for suggesting new fish keepers to use test strips. They should be good enough unless you are dosing fertilizer.

Hey man, appreciate your honesty and your content is always super helpful to hear. Been dealing with brown diatom algae in a 20 gallon long I started up back in January. I tried aggressively dealing with it, but ultimately just hanging back and being patient is what paid off because now it's mostly gone! I don't know if we're polling but i use both test strips and chemical kits.

Maybe try adding shrimp to the tanks with Algae. they are pretty good clean up crew.

Try a big water change with the shiners, using slightly cooler water. As the water temp increases it should trigger them.

have you tried adding a small amount of methalane blue to help stop eggs turning bad, fish are fine with a small amount when in breeding tanks

I got my rainbow shiners at about the same time as you did from Aqua Huna. Mine just started showing a glimpse of a red color but no shiny blues yet . Is that what yours are doing? I’m glad to hear I’m not the only one cause I was questioning what was going on

If you wanna improve that rainbow shiner line separate all your bootleg males out and throw a male from the good line in with bootleg females. Then you've still got the lines separate, and you can put the bootlegs males in a missilanius tank or were ever you throw culls.

@@AQUAPROS😮😮 I drove 2 hours to buy fish because my town doesn’t sell them and the guy who sells them at the a pet store said I needed to prep my water for minimum 2 weeks before getting any fish. What do you recommend I use to prep the water. I have no clue what I’m doing. This is my first time having fish. I was getting rice fish like you had recommended. I have a huge pot 41L. He also thought I could only put like 5 -8 fish. I really want to build a pond for the summer with the hopes of having my first indoor tank this fall. I should add I have access to a spring and my backyard is a lake. So I could easily access non chlorine water. (I’m sure in ten years I will look back at this and laugh at how amateur my comment is 😅)

The plants sort the algae out if you just leave it Mother Nature takes over, I have a planted tank nearly 6 months old lots of fish facing 2 windows & lights on 9hrs a day no algae all the fish are happy & having babies…. Lots of plants dirt substrate then just leave it a loan to do it’s thing & it dose, no cleaning no water changes no chems & my tanks are thieving totally natural Good luck everyone keep them naturally 😃👍
