I worked at MIT for a year as a summer research intern and then as a Research Assistant during my sophomore year of college. I give 5 tips on how to land an internship at MIT and the benefits that come with this.

It kinda depends on if you just want to work in CSAIL which is MIT's Computer Science Research arm. I would recommend use your CS skills in an area where you would not have a lot of competition - ex: arts, astronomy etc. Also reach out to professors, it is way better than applying. Which university were you studying in while you applied for the summer research internship at MIT? Does it generally have to be a top university?

Hey Anubhab, I went to a top 10 public school in the midwest but the Research lead said he had never even heard of my school. He did like the fact that I had a prior internship with a Healthcare based startup and had some coding experience. Thus, what really helped me out was cross functionality - Bio + CS. You can do the same with CS + X (X can be art/astronomy/music etc)

Hey , I guess you did ure graduation from a US university itself? Didn't that give you a upper hand. What if you're an international student , does cold emailing work equally well?

Hey Divneet. Good Point, however pls note that I completed this internship during my sophomore year of college (prior to graduation). I would recommend try to cold email at the best Universities in your country (IITs/IIMs). Get a big name on your resume and then use it to get a position in the US. Best of Luck!

Go ahead and find the area/person who most closely aligns with your background/unique skills and send them an email with a request to work remotely. Do this 10* times with other Universities as well and odds are in your favor of landing a few positions. Good luck!
