I'm only here because of Young Royals haha… actually I don't really have the time to learn another language, because I'm currently learning Italian, but watching this show and stuff related to it really makes me wanna learn this language, so that's how I ended up here haha. I have currently holidays anyways, so a bit more free time, let's see how this goes :)

I think most polyglots would choose other languages with bigger population base to capitalize their skills. And also, most nordic folks speak fluent English so learning a Nordic language wouldnt be necessary as long as you are not planning to spend a decent chunk of your life there.

No don’t feel too weird. I’m Hispanic and it’s really odd for me to be learning Swedish, because usually Hispanic people that would like to learn a third language go with another romance language, German, or at this point even Asian languages. But not me. I’ve also been made fun of for wanting to learn Swedish, so there’s that. Not by my family which is interesting, but by my mom’s boyfriend because he said something along the lines of who even speaks that language. Keep in mind he’s an Irish boy that doesn’t know any Gaelic anyways. he’s also half Polish and he doesn’t know Polish either. But I guess it’s better to learn the overrated languages or something.

First of all, I want to thank the author of the channel for making this beautiful and useful video for us! Many people are embarrassed to speak a foreign language if they have no speaking skills. People are afraid to hear criticism from others in their address. It all comes from having a psychological complex - to make a mistake. But, after all, he who does nothing is not wrong! In Yuriy Ivantsiv's workshop "Polyglot Notes. Practical tips for learning foreign language" states that we need to talk as much as possible: with yourself, with the mirror, with inanimate objects, with children and with pets. Find an interlocutor in real life or online. Talk without shyness. People won't care how you speak. They understand that you are a foreigner, as long as they understand you. They may even acknowledge your progress in their language and compliment you. However, always be prepared for criticism of your speaking skills. If you have the will to speak, you will gain an interesting interlocutor to consolidate your knowledge. Everyone is strewn with mistakes - don't be afraid to learn from them. As the Latin wisdom says, "walk and thou shalt not go astray". In the book "Polyglot Notes" by Yuriy Ivantsiv an entire chapter is devoted to the development of spoken language. Here you will find many useful tips and each student can choose a technique that suits him or her best! I wish you all the best of luck in your language learning!

I can relate to music getting me into Swedish, I fell in love with the language in 2011 when I found Basshunter, though I haven't made an effort to learn it until now, I know 13 years! How time flies. I wish I would've thought to do it sooner because I could've probably picked it up faster as a kid (I was 10 when I discovered it). On the other hand, there probably wasn't as many on demand sourcest then in the US so I don't think I regret it. I really appreciate actual links and not just vague information!

"Nu ska vi sjunga!" ooooh, that brings back memories! We used it all the time in school! I've taught a little bit of Swedish and would definitely recommend having a language exchange partner (or just a native online friend who can help one-way) who is passionate about teaching. I've used plenty of language exchange apps and sites, and I often see some people who teach incorrect stuff (making spelling mistakes themselves), or just glance over some subject. When my ex asked me a question about some grammar that I could use perfectly, but didn't know why the rules were the way they were, I would sink ~5 hours into learning the rules, the background info, examples and exceptions, and then write a 3 page document explaining it as well as I could :P I want to believe that was helpful at least :'D

It can be a bit tricky to find resources at first, but there's a lot out there for learning Swedish. Since there are so many immigrants in Sweden, the government provides a ton of stuff for free :D (lucky us!) Some resources I like are sveriges radio, nyheter på lätt svenska and disney+ (that last one is not really Swedish, but there are a few Swedish dubbed series and movies on there, especially for kids. Like Peter Pan, Nalle Puh (Winnie the Pooh), finding Nemo etc.) If you want people to practice with, there are a some Swedish learning Discord servers with both natives and learners (quicklight, svenskalärning)

It was nice listening to you. It's not very helpful for those who want to START to learn Swedish though. Finding someone to have conversations in Swedish with is nearly impossible, we're all aware of it. Unless you find a Swedish boyfriend or go somewhere extremely remote. Listening to music and watching series could be helpful but if one does it instead of other exercises, then sorry, but it's just a procrastination. I'm surprised that you mentioned that at the very beginning.

I agree with Leonie on this one. I think the lessons stick better when I start listening right away, because they'll explain a concept and then I'll realize "hey, I've heard them say that before" and I have a ready example in my head. Being exposed to the language also gives you motivation to keep learning, it keeps it from just being a brain exercise. And you need a lot of listening to get a lot of the pronunciation and things like prosody, rhythm, and more. Listening is essential even before understanding happens, in my book.
