I know Ruby on Rails, since I watched a video "Learn Ruby in 5 minutes" video. I am the man for the job!

All these languages and frameworks are just different enough to make you crazy. Focus on the concepts and understanding what questions to Google to help you solve problems. We should be building hotels on Mars by now. Instead we keep reinventing the wheel. People spend a lot of time beating themselves up, always thinking they don't know enough. Find a pet project to work on and contribute to. That will teach you much more than any tutorial, video or book. Being an "expert" in a modern framework is difficult since the next version is always right around the corner. Everything you think you know can be tossed out for a newer (better?) version.

In my opinion, programming (coding, or developing. Call it what you want) is about principals and frameworks. Some people don't know what is database or even what a table is, and they say we want to be programmers or even hackers !!!! 1. Learn some html, play with MS excel and MS access. 2. Learn keyboard shortcuts. 3. Learn some cmd commands (create, delete, rename, move files and folders -- how to start and stop services). 4. Learn about batch files and how to miss up your files, and network settings . 5. Understand what these mean: frontend, backend and frameworks. 6. Learn plain php, then move to laravel. 7. Learn jquery. 8. If you master laravel, I think you can move to other MVC frameworks easily. 9. Learn Vue. 10. Join a telegram group to see what developers talk about. 11. If you face a problem stackoverflow and reddit are great resources. Don't try to be a master in each step, learn the basics and move forward to the next step. Have fun or other way, you will get bored.

Coming from Rails and having never seen Laravel before this is so interesting to see! I would have never guessed that the similarities are so great! Since Rails was created 2004 and Laravel 2011 it seems like they took a lot of inspiration from Rails and created a "Rails for PHP" which I believe is a great thing.

Only real developers who struggled with this problem can understand it. That's how industry development team and developers work. But I think this is a great tip not only for development, it can be used in other areas. I couldn't stop me from pressing the subscribe button. But because I think you are deserved to get more subscribers, I suggest you don't leave comments to negative feedback. No reply would be better. In this world, we can't stop others blaming you. Just ignore them and focusing on what you are doing would open more doors.

Yea, right... Now go try help someone with their COBOL project or iOS app, for example. What i mean, It might be easy to help out on project that uses technology with good documentation and/or existing in the same field as your primary specialization. The real hell starts at the point, when there is no documentation at all and you have to figure out how to fix something in a field that you don't have experience with.

Your words: "I learned Rails in 2 days. I'm not an expert. I can do 95% of Rails. " and then you said "and i know how the framework works". I'm really nobody to hate people online for sharing their thoughts, but what the f? It's like making a 3 hour TODO List tutorial and saying "i know how rails works" . lmao.
@TravisMedia5 жыл бұрын
Tim van Monero Hey Tim thanks for your comment sir but I think you missed the point. Mastering Rails does not equal “learned” Rails. And no one is building a TODO app here. If you are put a on a real project/app at work that hundreds of thousands of people depend on, you don’t have forever to become an expert at it. So what general steps should I take to be able to adapt fast to different frameworks. That’s what this video is about. Rails is an MVC. It has many of the exact same features as the other major MVCs out there. By learning about MVC frameworks beforehand + noting the major differences in Rails + being a dev who consults documentation, it can 100% be “learned” in 2 days and commits can be made.
@timvanmonero27205 жыл бұрын
@@TravisMedia commit can be made in an existing project, however you won't be able to architect it yourself, even tho you know MVC. maybe you're right and i miss the point and i'm too harsh but i've seen guys who did rails for 6 months or even a year and i'm just like wtf?! smh... and yeah, those guys also did laravel before. just because it's MVC doesn't mean we do it the same way as we would do in laravel or symfony. of course, you're right, that you can do the most basics things after 2 days.
@timvanmonero27205 жыл бұрын
@@TravisMedia i just found this "i can do 95% of rails" insanely wrong. i'm doing rails 10 years, i'm an expert and can't do 95% ;-)
@TravisMedia5 жыл бұрын
Tim van Monero Thanks for this input Tim and I understand your concern and do agree. And 95% is probably a bit too high a percentage, indeed. Mainly I was trying to break up 1. Common MVC development between different frameworks (which is very similar) along with then consulting that documentation for best practices and 2. The Ruby/Rails particulars.
