How I taught myself to paint with watercolours in 2 months - painting nature while living slowly in the English countryside (cottagecore art).
Nature always fascinated me, and I wanted to capture it, keep it as a memory somewhere close. I was taking photos for the longest time, but that just didn't quite work the way I wanted it to. So I decided to learn how to paint - that way I can capture what I see, how I personally see it.

Something I often says to folks who are following a lot content of Cottagecore folks living seemingly beautiful lives in beautiful places without a care nor worry in the world, "Never compare your behind-the-scenes to someone else highlights reel" as outsiders looking in we *never* see the full picture nor the full journey of how these folks cultivated their life. Comparison doesn't serve us, it is after all, the thief of joy.

This was exactly the video I needed. I’m an artist but I haven’t picked up a paintbrush or pencil in months. I’ve been feeling stressed and overwhelmed with life lately and I couldn’t bring myself to create. This video reminded me of the joy of simply creating art for myself. The magic of making something out of color and imagination. Thank you so much for sharing your creative journey. It inspired me to be gentler with myself and have fun with art again. ❤

Yes, BUT you can learn drawing! From videos by immitating basic drawings or from your own personal experience by trying to copy the shapes and colors and what you see. It's the "contnious practice" that will make you see the difference between your first drawing and your on going ones, you will see your progress through time. Try it! My daughter learnt to draw just by observing me and immitating me! She is drawing frequently (more than me!) And she became already good, better than me when I was her age !! Try it (even talented people when they don't practice regularly, they lose some of their skills and talent!) 😊👍💕

I believe that creating is a drive one feels or desires. There are many ways to create. If the desire is strong enough, then developing the skills is a process that takes time. I wholeheartedly agree that the journey is more important than the result. However, the result can be very rewarding. There was a time when I began selling my paintings and getting commissions. It made me proud to have others value what I did enough to hang it in their home. On the other hand, other than the validation I received, there was more enjoyment in what I did for me. Being a working artist meant pouring my heart out only to give it away. I quit because the fun turned to chore. After retirement, and many years away from drawing and painting, I am rehoning my skills. Hand eye coordination is critical. It is like playing tennis. Repetition is essential to place the ball where you want it to go. Now I am having a lot of fun learning new things. Also, now it is all about learning and creating, just for my pleasure, to hang in my home or for my friends and family, or, to just keep in a drawer or sketchbook. I loved this video. It was full of wisdom, and aesthetic as well.

You’re painting is coming along beautifully! 💕 Hard work will outshine talent any day. I find with the art tutorials I follow, I always watch first and then paint. There’s nothing wrong with following someone else’s design for your own practice. Start with whatever materials you have. During the pandemic I painted little pieces of paper with coffee and tea 😅 Sometimes it’s fun to try new things without a specific end. You most certainly do not need an esthetically pleasing space to create art. You need a space that you don’t worry about the mess you might make. 😊 Thank you Daria for a lovely video this morning. ☀️🥰

For someone who just started watercolours you've learned very quickly! Your paintings show a great eye for composition and contrast. (I love the fact that I sound like a real expert when I'm not!) Thank you for sharing your journey. It's wonderful to learn from other artists, how they use their materials, how they start a painting and how they finish a painting. It might seem to be self explanatory but when you've not had the benefit of art classes it's far from obvious. I believe that the process is different for every artist but finding your own particular process is a matter of time, patience and practice. Thank you again!

I think one thing that many people overlook is the repetition and constant learning. People that create are always told they have talent. No, they have dedication. A plumber or a doctor isn't told they have "talent", like oh well, it's easy for you. Creativity has to be cultivated and learned just like you said, watching videos and tutorials. I wish peope would just say "I love your style or work". This is the first time watching and can I say, don't let other people tell you that you are doing something wrong in the videos, it's your free channel they get to watch, if they don't like voice overs they can just mute it. Some peope do very slow videos and I just speed them up to my liking. Well done

That’s absolutely perfect. » 😆 So i totally get it.

It's quite interesting seeing the gestures and mannerisms of talking, since we've known your voice mostly through narration form. The paintings are wonderful (and the dog border tape very fun!). 😍 Loved your watercolour, Daria! (Yay, sketchbook flip-throughs!🖌😃👍) I totally share your views on being creative and not letting perfectionism spoil our enjoyment of the learning process! 😊 I started using old school supplies and unsuitable paper during the pandemic, and discovered how freeing it was to have an activity where I didn't feel compelled to excel! Now I seek improvement just to be able to express myself better, and for the joy of learning. I am a perfectionist by nature (I still have supplies awaiting till I feel like I deserve them, because I don't want them to be wasted on my poor skills), but I try to overcome this trait! 😅 Speaking about traits, I also keep playing conversations back in my mind afterwards! 😉 (Must be an introvert thing.🤭) I loved your speech, Daria, so please, keep talking to camera! 👌😁 And I definitely recommend everyone to take up art. Being creative makes you feel so much better and happier! 🙏 Thank you so much for this great video!! 🤗👏👏👏🥰😘

Old sewing machine! Lovely memories of my childhood. I learnt sewing in an early age (around 12) on an old sewing machine (Singer) that functions with feet!!😂 that was an enjoybal experience. I could sew some clothes for my doll, pillows, curtains, kitchen items, skirt and some dresses for me, anything to enjoy that moment or repair a piece of clothe. Also, I learnt crochet and knitting at 9 years old, from my big sister and mom. Our home was smelling crafting activities as I grew up in a family of 4 sisters besides having 3 cousins living next to us and playing together! We were very creative kids and re-used or recycled many things around us to play with!! That were our best life moments 🥰😍🌻💕

For instance the 23 envelope Artworks were often derived or using old, scratched or decayed surfaces and they led you into inner realms of sheer beauty. Besides, your English sounds so british to me (I am German) that I was surprised to hear in one of your clips that you are not born in the UK. You should totally talk more on the camera, it bring out yet another side of you which is very beautiful to behold. Thank you for sharing your journey of learning on how to paint, it's actually quite important to hear from new aspiring artists. Quite often people who have mastered something cannot really relate to the beginners anymore. We humans tend to forget the difficulties and struggles of learning when we just start out. It's important to share things as it can only encourage others to make something beautiful of their own. I would call this process painting, not a focus on product. We begin learning by practicing, learning from our mistakes, or beginning effort: watch a child learn to walk, talk, or even draw. It is so helpful to have a beginner's mind yet always hold on to the step-by-step of each small goal. Keep a gentle, loving way of life and living, and watch yourself blossom! Thank you for your sharing.

You have a natural talent, that is without doubt! Your paintings are beautiful. I am always held back by fear of imperfection, so this is a wonderful reminder to me to just do it.

Life is not the one we see in reels or social media . It's far more than that . I love how you show the raw and natural things without any filter and definitely I love how you talk . I would say you should enjoy the process . You are doing great actually. Life isn't aesthetic but not ugly it's beautiful the way it is . ❤

There's no way this person wasn't already highly skilled as an artist and painter. I hope that's mentioned in the video

That sigh when it started raining on you, i felt that in my soul. I must admit i laughed at the "nevermind", sorry. I'm not creative and have always wanted to create art but think I'll be terrible. I should try one day. Loved the gorgeous cat cameo! ❤

Wonderful video. I recently purchased nic pro brushes and paints, we it's been so liberating to allow myself to give it a go. I used to buy Window and newton, and prob will again when I have more confidence. The affordable option mean I'm less caught up in the thought, another pan of this colour will be SO expensive and being afraid to make mistakes and waste supplies. The SAA, are good for supplies, cowling and Wilcox have good deals. I'm learning g with Jane Davenport for drawing and watching Matthew Palmer on KZbin. A phrase I write inside the cover of my sketchbooks is; 'I give myself permission to make the worst art imaginable, in this book. It's my safe space and I don't have to show anyone else.' Looking forward to sharing your journey.

It really is beautiful to see how you've improved so much in just like 2 months, I am not very consistent nowadays with painting but whenever I'll be , I hope I could become as good as you:) Also the way you beautifully put your thoughts in words is really nice ♡

You are good at speaking and should do so more often. Great art in such a short time. I wish my golf was that good after such a short time, it is not comparative even after 15 month.

What a beautiful and inspirational journey you are on. I relate so much, having old tubes of paint not used in years and lately just focus on junk / art/ ink blending in journal. Please could you consider maybe a couple of videos as you create these lovely paintings, your voice is lovely to follow along with. 😊

I really love your video and I'd love to stay on your channel longer. I feel like I've found a kindred spirit in you❤ I am a self-taught artist and I also believe that *the most important thing is the journey, not the destination* It took me some time to realize this but it was worth it. Painting and drawing helped me get through the darkest period in my life. There is something magical about creativity, and every aspect of it can be translated into our daily struggles or intrusive thoughts. For me, art has a language that is more understandable than anything else I can think of. I have certainly learned that: - making mistakes teaches me to look for new solutions -spontaneity does not always mean a lack of control -being a perfectionist is neither possible, healthy nor productive -an open mind and courage to try new things often brings surprising results
