Ok ok maybe “200 solar panels” was a massive exaggeration. But on a north facing slope, under 50ft tall trees, in the northern hemisphere, in winter time, you will need a lot of panels to capture reliable solar energy.

You could buy a small lithium phosphate battery and hook it up to a 100w solar panel, it might only generate half that at best, but a 500whr battery could be kept nearly fully charged all the time with the small amount you use, and it'd be free power.

A friend of mine built a cabin for himself , partner and their child. They lived in it full time. For power he used a car battery. when it was out of charge he would start his car and then switch the batteries and let the car recharge the battery while the engine was running. I think they mainly used it for lighting and a radio. They cooked on a gas cooker and had a wood heater they could also cook on and heat their water. pretty minimal usage so the battery was plenty to run for ages.

I got so used to not using a lot of electricity when I was in my apartment(I rarely turned on lights). When I became a jeep dweller it was a flawless transition. Looking forward to seeing your next video. Stay awesome Adam!❤️

Thank you so much young man. You're right, folks would be asking for trouble without a vehicle there. Appreciate ya here in Phoenix as you are a teacher at heart. Keep on being the light in dark rooms. Peace!

I wonder whether an oil lamp might be better for lighting. That way you have a light source that is not dependent upon your car and which will last a lot longer.

Sorta.. it could be doable. they are far more maintenance, and kinda smelly. I just like the simplicity and no-mess of the light (I did oil lamps for a while and regretted it)

Those little battery packs to charge your phone are amazing! I may have already blabbed to you about this 😜 but I bought one before I went hiking in Newfoundland in case my phone died and I couldn’t believe how super handy it was. I think I can charge my phone like 5 or 6 times on it. Always have it charged up before the big storms now. Also….that light is really cool. I may have to look into one of those!
