Hey Ponchy, don't forget the QREC option in the RECORDING SETUP 2 menu. From the manual: QREC makes it possible to time quantize manual sampling and Pickup machine sampling. • OFF disables recording quantization. • PLEN will, after pressing the keys initiating recording, start the recording process once the pattern has played its full length. • 1... will time the start of the sampling process according to the set number of sequencer steps. If for example 4 is selected, sampling will start on the next beat. If 8 is selected, sampling will start after half a bar. This saves you from having to worry about whether you've armed your track. I usually set mine to 16 knowing I have til the end of the bar playing before recording starts. Of course make sure your RLEN is set to the length of the pattern so that it stops at the end.

PONCHY PONCHY PONCHY !! advantage of the thru + flex vs a pick up? I guess more live sound editing with the flex? New to the octatrack game but your videos are saving me. Great videos!

Glad to help! To me the biggest difference is whether you are trying to save the loops and/or slice them. I prefer the pickup machines for live use because you can overdub more easily and still use FX on them as well as stack loops much more quickly. But if you are just working on stuff at home or in the studio, I’d go with the flex machines. Keep in mind you can save loops either way though.

@@Ponchy I use the flex machine to manipulate the sounds I have recorded with the pickup. Makes for some really fun live sound editing, ie splice up the loop in the real time and randomise the pattern & using the Cross faders to mute/ unmute the pickup & flex. Keep up the good work Ponchy.

@@romox96 Thank you Nary! That is certainly the funnest and smartest way to use the flex machines!
