Dammit Pint...I loved wow, and this is exactly how I felt--But rather than being the last, I was the first to go to FF 14...And now all my friends are coming over and we're getting that same experience, but I feel for my friends who are still playing wow because they don't want to start over... The friends I made on wow that came to FF 14 showed me a game does not hold us down, we are gamers, not just wow players.

I swear that's part of what made me make this channel and my love for the game all these years later, meeting her there and the close calls. Because MMORPG's aren't just games, they're places that exist as real memories for us.

This. Only main reason why I love Tera Online even though, before the 1st server merged ever, almost every players that I encountered were extremely toxic and elitists. Besides of the engaging combat system, I met lots of good friends and joined the same guilds Sadly, few updates before EME moved away, everyone got busy with their life, guild dramas and slowly only the elites stayed. I did the dungeons and it didn't feel...fun. Sure the friends were and are still on discord but not playing together in Tera really bring a bit of sadness to me especially since the server shutdown. Rip Tera Online

Reminded me of my last logout, which to me is my forever last logout. Played WoW on/off since 2005, and me and some buddies were the first ones to charge into Nagrand. We would frequent that area and hang out on the floating islands. One time a friend was having a rough day and we were chatting in vent about it. He told us how his step-father was an abusive jerk and WoW was his escape. Over the next six months we talked to him about getting his life on track, helped him get into college (paid for his application fees and helped him write his letters), and eventually got him living the best life. My other friend there was a RL army buddy that eventually took his own life. I went on "our" floating island, made a campfire, and just sat there for a long time. It was weird to have a moment like this in a video game, but WoW now does not create the same level of human interaction as it did in the past. Its no longer worth playing for me, and lots of other people. Ending was a gut punch, but it is nice knowing other people feel the same.

This video is ironically focussing about the thing why I will probably never go back to WoW regardless of having a character for every class. All this "unobtainable/timegated/timesink" sh°t is just too much by now. When I think about all the stuff I can never obtain just because I was not a perma-subscriber, I really feel like I am treated like a "subh°man" type of player/customer by now. It is actually *NOT* the eternal grind that makes a game special. Or the exclusives or the wannabe-previliges of the perma-players. It is the memorys, the fairness and the spiteless, envy-free community which does not try to look down on 'anyone' and WoW has lost that so I won't come back. Also Blizzard is going too Woke and that must be punished.

I've seen a lot of these "Leaving WoW" videos recently, and while I had quit playing years ago there was always this niggling urge to go back and see what was different and try and pick up where I left off. I think this is the one that finally got through that my old friends are long gone, and whatever joy I got from the world or the game left when they did. There's truly nothing left for me in Warcraft.
@Taima3 жыл бұрын
Not necessarily. Pint makes these videos of his amazing nostalgic past that is a shared feeling with many old WoW players, but despite that, he still plays. Today's experiences are tomorrow's nostalgia. He can't make any new WoD memories, but the ones he makes now will be equally unique to this time when looking back years from now too.

@mr.nobodyx3 жыл бұрын
@@BoydTheMilkmanX yes, and if you think about it, not even classic WoW brought that feeling back. Once all drops are mapped, and nothing is unexpected, the mystery is dead. Also, if only raids drop good loot, the world becomes meaningless. What’s the point of exploring a cave with friends if you know the best you might find is a chest with a mana potion?
@imapseudonym61982 жыл бұрын
To be fair... the face of gaming has just changed so much, that it's ridiculously hard to truly 'discover' anything. Both in that the gaming community has grown tremendously, and that gaming communities have changed such that everything is communicated.... and, you can't really afford NOT to communicate, or else you'll be uselessly weak. My very first experience with it was all the way back in FF11, when I used to deliberately try not to research things so that I could feel the joy of truly discovering stuff for myself.... only to realize that being that ignorant had at some point switched from a journey of exploration, to being unforgivable dead weight for your entire team.
@mr.nobodyx2 жыл бұрын
@@imapseudonym6198 100%, if the game design rewards research, players will research. It is not the fault of the players, it is broken game design. That is what happens when game designers repeat the same formulas from a time before the internet to modern days. Obviously the world has changed, and the same design does not bring the same results anymore. You are forced to research, because some gameplay styles are better than others. However, if every gameplay style was equally good (or at least in the same general area) you would not be dead weight to your team. Convoluted stats like "hit rating", which dont meant absolutely anything if not researched first, are a prime example of that. as well as static loot tables or gaming worlds that only serve to be replaced with end-game content. why does good loot drop in dungeons? to force players to ignore the open world? this teaches everyone to lear the formula "skip the leveling+world and focus on dungeons and bosses" why have 20 years passed without mixing that up? Who says you shouldn't be able to find rare items in the open world? who says bosses should appear in the same locations every time? Who says the whole gameplay has to be a static recipe to be shared over the internet? who says your class should be better with one item than with another? why can'y you use the item you think looks the best/coolest? If you are forced to research to find out a "best" answer, the game is broken. RPG's are about one thing only: to go on an adventure. following a pre-compiled recipe is the furthest possible from that, and that is the one and only reason the genre has stagnated to utter boredom. MMO's were at its best when you stumbled upon something amazing by accident, because you did not know. We didn't use to say "lets go do X content" but "lets go and kill some stuff and see what happens". There is absolutely nothing stopping game designers from making worlds that feel like that again, except a lack of creativity. They create huge procedural worlds that only reward achievements and crafting materials, and then only populate 5 end-game dungeons with useful content. And then they cry about "how gamers aren't exploring the world". it is a bit ridiculous xD

I also saw no point in recreating a feeling that might never be felt again, no point in chasing it and potentially damaging my view of those memories. Cause when I was younger I knew exactly what that feeling was, magic. Just pure experiencing new and wonderful worlds with new and equally wonderful friends
@CocoonsLastHope3 жыл бұрын
You wouldn’t have felt it, I re made my hunter and it was just not the same, probably because it wasn’t new anymore. But than every game is like that, even old PS1 games, they just don’t feel the same when you replay them. Except Tomb Raider 1 to 4, no idea why, but those feel great and often new every single time. I had a couple of games I played as a kid with epic memories, I got those games off of EBay. Played them and I don’t know why but I ruined my epic memories of the games completely and I wished I had never bought them. Because I wish not to tarnish what I feel for Tomb Raider, I will not play any of the new ones, the reason why they’ll tarnish the feelings? because they suck and I had watched someone play them and fell asleep multiple times. I feel like playing that trash will ruin my feelings for the old games. I honestly think it would and so that’s why I won’t. PS. I also miss my old twinks from 70 to 101, I miss them so bad, Blizzard really doesn’t want us to have any fun at all.

That ending hit me straight in the feels and I totally relate to it. Life goes on, you grow older and realize what wow brought you back then isn't why you're playing anymore. Like you said, it became a job and I had to step away from it. I went back to FFXIV, took the casual approach with it and eventually came back to wow in the off days I didn't feel like logging onto FFXIV, and man did FFXIV change the way I play and look at a game now. Wow is fun-ish again, and I always have FFXIV to fall back on as my "main" game now

Ending hit me kind of hard. I recently actually quit because of the recent stuff that came out about Blizzard along with them adding boosts and and a 70$ mount to Classic, they're clearly against the spirit of Classic and retail just doesn't connect me to people the same way I feel, not as much at least. I did cry a little when I cancelled and uninstalled. Been playing this game since early WoTLK, and now it seems to actually be over. Not saying I wont ever check out a private server, but Blizzard is long dead and so is the corpse of a game that they parade as World of Warcraft. I tried really hard to get into FF14 earlier this year but just couldn't. World of Warcraft was the only MMO that really kept me hooked and passionate about it. Probably will be playing a lot more ESO as I have a lot of history there too, SWTOR even.. and who knows, maybe Ashes of Creation or New World will be able to create some fresh, brand new nostalgic memories for me. Fingers crossed. 🤞

I can't say give FFXIV another go because I honestly don't know what bounced you off, but whatever it was it was probably valid. FFXIV almost bounced me off too. I had always wanted to get into WoW but I never had a pc that could run it and I didn't have the money for a subscription. I had heard of the community and all the weird events that happened. I mean very few games can claim to have had a plague occur unscripted. Players becoming famous just through community interaction and building bonds with people you've never met. I always wanted that. It was to my horror that when I finally had money and the time to play WoW that it had already been too late. Atleast for the reasons I wanted to get into it. The community I had heard was fleeing and rarely interacted with eachother, new content was unfun, Blizzard was in several scandals, etc. So I ended up jumping onto FFXIV. FFXIV honestly content and story wise gets good after 10 hours of setup and tutorial quests, essentially after you beat the main quest and start the first expansion. I honestly almost didn't make it. It took me joining a guild, making friends and exploring all the content outside of questing. And after the first expansion started I started getting invested in the story, and things kept snowballing from their. Essentially how FFXIV works is that it builds it's story on top of itself, the boring fetch quest snow balls into an adventure to kill a god. Same with dungeons, small dungeons with one boss that you just have to tank becomes long labyrinths with three bosses with phases and different mechanics. I'll never forget leading an early game dungeon and meeting some new players who turned out to be WoW refugees. They had said that they were surprised how vocal people were in chat during dungeons and more so they found the community extremely accepting. I think that's FFXIV's strongest point. Being a new player and gaining help and being taught by veteran players constantly. Eventually becoming the veteran player and helping new players. All of this happening over only a few months. Its honestly the experience I had hoped to get when dreaming of WoW. I hope you find a game just like that, and I encourage you to give FFXIV another try, it's honestly the happiest I've been as a gamer since I was a kid.

This just hurst so much because its basically my story, however, I'm extremely conflicted as FFXIV doesnt attract me at all, just doesnt, everyone is playing FF while I'm here, WoWless and rotting while trying to find something to do. I'm still attached to my characters, I worked so hard to get them where they are, but now the game isnt fun, and I dont want to see my characters gone. :7

Same man, same. I'm just too attached to WoW, especially Northrend where i spend most my time roaming around, it's too painfully reminiscent of the best times in my wow history. I don't feel the charm of FF online even if i still enjoyed some of it, like FF 7 remake and 15

Played from age 14 to 27. There was great times and bad times. The game meant a lot to me, but I let it go going on three years now. As I delve more into real life and it’s challenges and accomplishments I’ll never forget the mystery and awe WoW had for me. From my very first night elf toon where the forest lit up my childish eyes to the moment I stood at the gates of ironforge with friends having made a long journey by foot from Teldrasil as low level characters. I’ll never forget the friendships and true fantasy of it all and I hope some day in my life a game will reignite that same child-like wonder again.

Fuck man… as someone who is stuck in the past. Like, I know I am lingering among the memories, stuck in this endless dream, never awake. Dancing in this burning house of nostalgia that just slowly turns to dust and embers. And as I claw and grasp so desperately through the shards and ashes of history, i cut and burn my hands. But the pain feels so familiar, the dream is just so close to my soul, I don’t want it to end. But then after you realize in your desperation to regain those moments, you wasted a dozen more, you see all the opportunities you mist and the people and moments you took for granted while you ranted and raved about times that can and will never return. But yeah maybe I can dream, just one last time. And that’s how the cycle continues

Right in the feels. I met a good friend, one could say he was my best friend for years at the time in WoW, back in Arathi Highlands. Back in Vanilla and I helped him with quests and leveling, as I was aa masterful twenty levels higher. Later on he became my guild master and raid leader. That lasted for many years and some of the best raiding was done under him. There was a drama-rama and he left the game. Including me. We lost contact and I guess thats that. I cry still sometimes because I enjoyed his company, he was a great guy but whatever. Sometimes people need to cut ties completely to leave. Since then I have met my husband on WoW and have left the game. We now play Elder Scrolls Online. WoW holds a special place in my heart for all the memories and time spent. But it's the past.
