My life has come to a screeching halt and I've gotta do something about it before it kills me!!! I can't stand having nothing to do!!!! You keep slayin those incredible fish and it may help me to find a way out of this rut!!! my guess is that the rear single was fouled somewhere on the fish's shoulders or high on the head. it's basically like wearing a harness and the fish can get tremendous leverage. you felt it pop out and the leverage point changed from the side of the head to the mouth, which allowed you to turn the fish. just a guess. very good fish. sucks to lose $300 worth of lures but it was a big send

In southern California. We use iron lures to catch yellowtail. There way cheaper than using expensive lures. $8 each

There actually a little higher than $8 depending on the size. The smaller one's are cheaper.

I'm from South Africa, we use metal spinners made from plain tin or a mixture of tin and white metal and sometimes some lead added to make them a bit heavier, but the more popular lures are just simple plastic plugs that retail for about R70 each which is about $5/6 US Dollars. Many of the anglers here mould their own metal spinners and fashion plastic plugs with lead poured inside. Check out Seal Point Lures on Facebook for what we use mostly for Yellowtail in ZA.

OK, that should not even be a question that you should be asking. Why in the hell would you pay $220 for a lure? I bet you $50 you could cut off a section of broom handle drill a hole through the center run a wire through it and attach two swivels on it. Put one hook on the rear swivel and I bet you you could catch one of those kingys on it. I don’t mind spending money on fishing but $220 on a lure is not open my repertoire.

I'm not from NZ but my guess is the Kingies swim tight against the side, its the sweet spot/target zone for the choice of better words. Here in ZA we spin for Kingies from the side, most fish are raised within 30/40 meters from the side, the guys that cast 70 meters or more are just cranking for nothing until they get into the honey hole.
