DekaFit - Spartan Race - What You Need to Know
DekaFit is the newest obstacle course race from Spartan. The best way to describe DekaFit is that it's a mashup of Spartan Obstacle Course Racing combined with Hyrox Fitness and Crossfit. Personally, I couldn't be more excited about THE FIRST EVER Deka event taking place in the UK.
How Does Deka work? (this is from the official Dekafit Website)
Deka in general is made out of ten fitness stations, known as DEKA Zones, will test all manner of strength, endurance, balance, coordination, and mobility inside the DEKA Gym. The UK event will be the Deka Strong version and will be taking place in #crossfit Clitheroe.
What are the Zones?
Zone 1: Spartan Ram Lunges
Technique: During the carry athletes can carry the RAM in the front or back rack position. They may also carry or hold on the right/left shoulder. While lunging, thighs must meet or break parallel to the ground at the bottom of each lunge Athlete must reach full hip extension at the top of each lunge rep.
What you cannot do: Drag, throw or roll the Spartan Ram or jump into the lunge.
Zone 2: 500m Row
Enter zone two and proceed to an open row machine. Row 500m. You can set the damper setting to whatever number you want.
Zone 3: Box Jump Overs
What you do: Athletes jump up on or step over a 24″ plyo box and jumps down or step down from the box on the opposite side.
Zone 4: Med Ball Sit Ups
Complete 25 medicine ball sit ups with a 9kg ball.
Zone 5: Ski Erg
Enter zone five and head to an open Ski Erg machine to complete 500m. Again, damper setting can be changed.
Zone 6: Farmer's Carry
100m Farmer Carry
What you do: Enter zone 6 , pick up two 28kg hex dumbells weights and carry for 100m then return weights.
All athletes are allowed to set weights down and rest, all athletes are not allowed to drag or throw the weights.
Zone 7: Assault Bike
25 calories on the assault bike. Seat height can be adjusted.
Zone 8: Dead Ball Wall Overs
Complete 20 reps with a 30kg dead ball.
Zone 9: Tank push/pull
Standards: Front of tanks must reach the 10m finish line before tank pull/row beings. After completing push athlete runs back behind the start line and pulls/rows the tank back to start line using the attached rope. Tanks must be kept in the required lane while pushing/pulling/rowing. Athlete must pull/row tank until front of the tank is behind start line.
Zone 10: RAM Burpees
20 Spartan Ram Burpees
Standards: Athletes drop down into a burpee and lower entire body until chest/upper torso of body makes contact with RAM. Push body back up to plan position, kick legs forward back under the body. At this point athlete can snatch RAM to overhead lift, clean to push press lift or a ground to standing curl and press lift. Arms do not need to be locked out and you can step into the burpee, if need be.
