I'm using Notion about 2 months now and as you say it can be very daunting when you first start as its not "an out of the box" solution, which on reflection is the most amazing thing about it. It is slowly changing how I work and for the better. KZbin has been my go to school for learning it and I have to say you are by far my favourite KZbinr with regard to teaching it. I too am freelance in my area of work and have a busy work and family life and i have adapted alot of your processes and I find them brilliant. You should definitely create a course for people to sign up to (paid of course) - I would definitely do it. Keep up the good work and looking forward to hearing about the move to Montana!

Thanks for this amazing overview Jerad. Great work. It's insane how much we can log and track with this tool. I really think I'll launch headfirst into this, as I was a huge bullet journal fan for many years. I think there's a balance of tracking and "living" I've tracked everything I do (when I ran a daily vlog) but I also think there's benefit in natural flow or not feeling overwhelmed or pressured to try and track everything. I think my personal "OS" will end up somewhere in the middle of all of this. Amazing work and thanks for the inspiration.

It amazes me how organized people are with this lol. Great job and vid! I’m slowly trying to wrap my brain around it. Struggling a bit with linking things/databases together in a cohesive way. Like how to tie multiple tasks to project(s). Not even sure how to formulate the question lol.

To live a life is to live, not to track and log the life you live. This can be so time consuming that it easily becomes a goal in itself.

Totally agree. Notion is a great app but don't let it become a hurdle.

Agreed I am slimming down my uses for notion, not good to be on the screen that much either. Powerful tool but it can easily take over.

But it’s SO important to document whether the interaction with the electrician (who he’s never going to see again for the rest of his life) was a phone call or a face-to-face conversation!

Everyone is different. What works for you may not work for others. Some things need tracking. I'll bet you track some things. (e.g. budget, whether you've taken a pill today, when your exams are due.) So why is it ok for you to track those things, but not ok for others to track what they need?

Maybe I'm in the minority, but a lot of this seems incredibly unproductive, tracking every tiny detail in your life, eg. putting your phone as an asset, uploading pics of it and the receipt with a database to say if you own it or if it is damaged... I mean just because you can doesn't mean you should. Less is more with this app. Every second spent on this app is time away from your goals, rating my day out of 5 stars and picking an emotion and journals etc is procrastination in my opinion. Do what works for you but just a warning to others.

THANK YOU. You are the voice of reason here haha, I was thinking the exact same thing. When he was talking about his expense log I was like “that’s called a bank statement.” And tracking who your friends are... what? This modern culture is so obsessed with productivity that it ironically goes so far in it that people become wildly unproductive while maintaining the illusion of productivity. The essentialism of things are deeply lost.

I think it’s called “pro-plan-stination” where you procrastinate through fooling yourself. Making you believe that you’re doing something productive when you’re really not.

Instant database with modifications ad lib. I can’t remember how great it is to have this. The OOB Helix from the early days of the mac was a lifesaver

Really nice to have that data when you need to file an insurance claim, or you lose track of what hardware belongs to you personally or your business.

To OP (John O) and all involved, what do you think is reasonable use for apps like Notion? What would you track? Asking to pick your mind, not to pick at you, as I agree with what OP said to an extent and I've been guilty of it myself at times.

Why is it that we always seem to be looking for/tuning/replacing our “life management” systems but some people (for example my manager) just never need them or learn about new tools? Genuine question. They seem to manage their life pretty well without writing things down.

Thanks for the videos, great content! Always great to see how other people use Notion. I got a few post notes of inspiration. Is the formula you use for 'Status' Column in the Personal CRM something like "=IF("Last Update">x, 'stop sign', 'thumbs up')"? Thanks

Rating with emoji aren't a metric, it cannot be used to do calculations. Say you want to know the average metric over your reviews. You cannot do that. Just simply sticking to a "number" will help a lot.

Bro wtf, now this isn’t even productive it’s just a waste of time and you are trying to document your life instead of living it which is preventing you from living it.
