@@VideoGameDataBank It's not exactly my idea. I saw someone else make a small ramp somewhere and it reminded me of skii ramps in the Winter Olympics. It'll take a lot of time, but you seem like a pretty fast builder.

This works also for any water that does not freeze. I built quite big base in lake (near modern axe location) that does not freeze over during winter and i did some testing. Cannibals and mutans (but also Virginia and Kelvin) don't want to go in using any type of connection (rope bridge, bridge with normal foundations).

You can jack up the lower logs by inserting a 1/4, 1/2, or 3/4 log piece as required

if it wont accept a 1/4 log its because you lack a crossbeam (2 attachments seems to allow topping for better height) Also utiling this method you can make for some interesting designs based on quarter log posts

4:01 quarter logs where the lower logs were then put a log across them to put a whole log on top for even ground

Issue with this is that these builds have pathing issues with kelvin and virginia. I just build my cabin, by placing the ground floor first and then on the edges place stick defense - reinforced with rocks. Then building the walls over it. Whenever cannibals or mutants attempt to try to destroy the structure, results in decapitation/death.

You can build a no-rope bridge, needs to be fully solid for the NPCs, cannibals will use it too. The good thing is that it´s incredibly easy to create a decent defence for a bridge entrance. At least that worked in the lake I am using, I just built a tiny defence made of mainly stick-spikes around the bridge entrance and use a zipline to get out myself.

i found a spot by the big waterfall with the coffins on it, at the base, there is a spot by the rocks you can stand on, that is surrounded by water you have to swim in. its small, but located very well. i use that for shelves so cannibals dont break them. then build whatever on the land and let them have at it, really. its just made of wood and their bones, i can get more of both.

You dont need a full grid for building on, as long as it is one log wide and supported on 2 paralell sides you can slap flooring down all day

Just be aware that the shallow beach water perimeter works for all entities save one: mutant babies. Despite the fact it should be technically impossible due to navmesh limitations, mutant babies appear to disregard this fundamental game behaviour and those babies will home in on your general direction unless the water is exceedingly deep.

This is the only base so far that the giant blob thing can't destroy! All other floating and water bases failed! Congratulations! For everyone that doesn't know around day 150 on hard, giant blob things spawn and can destroy the forest and your base and anything in the way. So this is pretty amazing!

Here is something to keep in mind when building vertically in sons of the forest: Every full log upwards, you need at least 1 horizontal beam, or you won't be allowed to expand upwards.

Builds that basically break the AI into being unable to attack - what's the point? At that point just go into settings and disable destructible structures and just go build in a more resource-rich area rather than the ocean.

Unfortunately some people play on servers where they can't control the hosts decision to have destructible structures enabled, but more realistically I just want people to be aware of all their options when doing something like this.
