For some reason I was also testing with almost same inputs for GOLD (01:00 to 05:00) I feel confident after looking at the results, however I have different approach for SL/TP and risk reward ratio. Thanks for the video Rene.

Hey Rene - I see range breakouts as very popular lately as they are so timeless - I suspect this could do with at trend or momentum filter on daily time frame so you only take stop orders in the direction of the trend on the daily chart (because you are effectively trading daily candles). Am thinking MA, Kaufman efficiency ratio or Normalized MACD histogram ... keep up the good work man!!!!

An issue with the backtest in MT5 that I just ran into with this recent market crash is that if you have a stop-loss on a trade in the strategy tester, the backtest assumes it will be honored. This is definitely not the case when the market gaps. For example, say you open a trade at price=100, with SL at 90 while the market is open. Then the market closes, and the next day it opens at 85. In reality, you would fill at this new price of 85, but in the backtest, the loss will be calculated as if you closed at 90.

@@nikhilpal9513 I've modified my code to not use hard-stops, but rather use soft-stops. I track what my intended stop level is and if Bid < SL, my EA manually closes the trade only when the market is open.

Hi, quick question, how do you calculate the min and max RangePercent,is basically the idea that if the price difference is less then an X%, in this case 0.15% or bigger then 0.85% of the total range anything below or above this range wont be valid? but it's not clear the formula to get there, can you please help me out? yes it is dukascopy data but i modified the spread. commission is included and swap rates should not really matter because trades are closed on the same day.

For the range max & range min filter of 0.85% and 0.15% respectively, you said it’s calculated from “current market price when the position’s open”. But the EA placed 2 orders (buy at range high & sell at range low), so there are 2 potential position open price. So are the range max & min calculated based on these 2 value? Does that mean there are 2 range max & 2 range min value (each calculated based on range high & range low)? Or do you just use 1 value for the calculation (for example only based on range high)?

i think it is just range high for buys and sells. would have to look it up actually :D

​@@championchanph423 not much different between using range high or low actually, even with broker's price difference, etc. But there's always possibility that EA won't place order because it consider the range is too big or small. For example, range high of 2000 and low of 1983. The EA will place orders if the calculation is using range high, but not if using range low. Though I'm pretty sure it's quite rare to see.

Looking at your inputs, you say 1% risk but in the history the SL is at 0.4%?

1% risk on 50k if it hits initial sl.. please make your own tests and adjust the settings so they fit your personal situation

Aber ich finde den Fehler beim SL nicht, ich gebe zwar auch die 1.0 ein aber bei mir klebt der SL immer am Ende der Range. Der EA schaut bei mir auch ein klein wenig anders aus (mehr Einstellmöglichkeiten) Hast Du vielleicht eine Idee, was ich falsch mache?

vermutlich nutzt du einen anderen EA. viele versionen von dem EA nutzen statt dem SL in prozent einen SL als faktor der range. schau dir deinen EA am besten noch einmal genau an und auch die einstellungen.

I dont understand your SL - why is it not a % of your account, but a % of an input? Over those 10 years, surely you would increase your account size.

I did not deposit the whole 50k. I just deposited a percentage for the margin requirements.
