@@TheEverythingYoville sooo I have 2 undergrad degrees...the first one is unrelated to SLP, and was under a 3.0. 🥴The second one (in Speech and Hearing Sciences) was a 3.8. This is a career change for me, so I have a full time leadership experience for over 3 years vs extracurriculars. I opted for 4 letters of recommendation vs the typical 3 that are required. Lastly, I strategically chose schools that aligned with my values, and included an interview process, because the idea of a school choosing me solely based off my paper application just made me nervous. But...everyone is different. If it's what you want, do your research and go for it. You got this 💗

The one thing you forgot to mention is home health has a great pay. About two years into working home health you can typically made between 97 and $110,000 working about a 40 hour work week. Also, if you just do PRN in 2 to 3 places that have consistent work, you can make well over that.

Stumbled upon your video while I was looking for something else, related to SLP and dysphasia. Good for you for working hard to pay down your debt. I am a recently retired after 30+ years as an SLP. And yes you are correct, when you get burned out in one area you can switch to another. I worked in skilled nursing, adult daycare, specialized skilled nursing for Huntington’s patients, and home health. Now that I have retired, I’ve totally switched things up and I am taking a stab at KZbin in the make up subscription box niche. Have a great week😊 you give a good inspirational motivational basis to those that are coming up in the SLP training.

I only have an AA, sped cert, & trying to find an undergraduate program that would be relevant to SLP. I’m currently an RBT, was going for teaching, but not for me. I’m worried about my gpa currently from cc, so I also need to bring my grades up through my future bachelor program and then try to apply for communication disorder/slp graduate program. Im so far away, it’s my dream job but just stressing about the obstacles. Uh Manoa in Hawaii is pretty hard to get into for grad school. Do you think an online masters degree would be of worth?

Hi Marissa ! So happy to hear about your desire to become a speech-language pathologist ! You can do it ! An online communication science and disorders program is perfect ! There are quite a few of universities that offer the program . I included the link below . find.asha.org/ed/#sort=relevancy

PRN means “as needed.” So you basically get to pick when you want to work which is so nice !

I’m an anthropology culture major, do you think I can get accepted to graduate programs?
@TSlater_
@TSlater_ 2 жыл бұрын
Absolutely ! My undergraduate degree is in broadcast journalism which is not related to SLP at all . However, some programs only require students to take leveling courses while in the graduate program or before starting the graduate program .

@TSlater_
@TSlater_ Жыл бұрын
@@thinking....5158 I promise you there are a lot of job options for SLPs. You can do a quick google search or Indeed search for SLP jobs in your area and you will see there are a plethora of opportunities. I had a conversation with a friend the other day and she told me my current school district is short by 13 SLPs. There is definitely a need for the services we provide. Also, you could always be your own boss an open up your own private practice.

@TSlater_

Hey ! I used Stepping Stones group ! The pros is definitely the pay ! However the huge con is a facility may not have the expected workload for you and there’s a possibility they can call you off (then you won’t get paid) or cancel the contract at anytime 🥴 But you can always try to negotiate your contract .
