As someone who has grown up watching the channel, I'm so happy to see you both still wearing silly costumes, running around on that roof together. No age milestone should change the way you feel about having fun with your best friends. Just because you have kids, doesn't mean you can't still be one!

adults, true adults, are just giant kids. Acting like you need to give up on fun and happiness because your an adult just gets you closer to death and losing enjoyment of life. Its why most older people still young and youthful in spirit live longer. The grumpy ones who hate everything get sick and miserable and usually accept the grim reaper their so tired of life, been tired since they turned 30 and werent physically young anymore. Sad. Lol, joking of course, point is stay happy.

"It felt great to be making a silly video on the roof with my buddies." Seriously, that is 100% of the reason this channel is so fun. There are others out there making great VFX videos for sure, but it's the vibe of having fun with your buddies that makes it so much more enjoyable. I don't do VFX at all, but can 100% relate to just hanging with friends!

Sam, I get where you're coming from with the "No more Master Chief costumes after 40", but I want you to know that I for one, appreciate the Master Chief costumes. As a fellow nerd, it brings me so much joy to see you dressing up and putting in the effort to make these fantastic videos. If you didn't put on the Mario costume and go dance in the street for hours, this video would never have turned out the way it did. @Orangeflava I wish it had been as you say! I couldn't put my exploded head back together and continued watching the video with my brain exposed to the air and when Sam explained the process my head was automatically putting itself back together as if the knowledge shared by Sam would trigger some sort of Wolverine style 'healing factor'. So it wasn't me who was able to put my head back together.... It was this wonderful video. The cause and the solution to my exploded head. It's the risks of learning new things. Your head can explode when you see something you don't understand, and then snap back together when you get the information that explains how it was done.

idk if the bit in the middle was real, but as someone whose a long longtime fan, youre at the top of the pyramid from my point of view. youre your own boss, you get to spend time pioneering the indie-cgi space, and no one else does it like you guys, hell this video is a testament to how far youve come because you single handedly cranked out a main channel video with new techniques. I dont know what "the next step" means to you, and im sure theres lots of struggles behind the scenes but in terms of artistry, youre THE example for anyone not wanting to go industrial and work in the disney cgi sweatshops...

I got a question that probably nobody's gonna answer: How did the natural lighting/passage of day affect the video? I mean you covered a pretty vast area and took quite a long time on each location... Did you really have no trouble with lighting consistency? What measures did you plan to for it to go smoothly?
@CorridorCrewКүн бұрын
Each area only takes 10-20 minutes to capture max, so the lighting shift is minimal. But I did go back and try and recapture a few areas to add to the data sets, but I was 30 to 45 minutes off, and that destroyed everything. Do you know the effect of wearing polarized sunglasses and looking at a LCD screen? That’s what everything looked like. Pretty crazy.

I really like this deep dive into the creative process from Sam's perspective. A very, "no-nonsense," approach of. This is what we did... this is why... this sucked... we endured and tried again. People don't always consider what's going through the minds of people during the creative process in a space that's been untreaded fully... The roadbumps, the planning that fails, the stress, etc. Delightfully presented. Thank you for sharing all this guys!

Seriously I don't know how many breakdowns or behind the scenes I've seen. My understanding is not growing proportionately with my joy of seeing how it's done. Like, back of my mind, the principles are there which is giving me greater appreciation when I watch movies or shows. But I couldn't describe any of this without saying It's a combination of time, suffering, skill, suffering, and suffering.

You guys should really dip into custom camera gear too. Nowadays you can get hotend cameras for your 3D printer that are absolutely tiny, and they make the Raspberry Pi Camera Module-style sensor in 4K@60 as well. Slapping together one of those and an RPi Zero could make for an incredibly light-weight camera setup, which you could then combine with other sensors on your shoulders or side of your head for tracking. The actual computing and a battery pack could be in a backpack or something. Basically, take what's available, remove what makes action cameras difficult to produce (their form factor) and make something that's even better for a specific purpose.

I love that gaussian splats are point clouds with each pointing have more volume, color, and fluffiness (probably more than that). Give the AI fifty photos from different heights and angles, then it first puts the images in virtual space, generates a bunch of the "splats" with random values, compares what the splats show from that virtual location compared to the real images, then changes the results. Takes a lot of time to generate, but the end results are then super fast to use. What's cool is you can use high detailed CGI renderings to also generate gaussian splats. I know Nvidea released a program that uses this concept and takes the best of both worlds that photogrametry and gaussian splats offer (balancing speed and fidelity) with rendered settings, so expecting far better things from film makers making use of this.

Film people walking around and doing actions from above, then cut them out and put them on the floor around where Big-Mario is standing. Exactly like @ 3:20 It's just an excuse to use Tilt-Shift because I love it so much.. it's my all time favourite lens effect.

Remember to get a good splat scene you need to take photos from the angles you want to view it from, the more the better, but also more from the closer angles to your camera positions. For example if you do a camera move you need to make sure you take photos from the whole move. angling the camera, up, down and left, right for four shots, then doing the same four shots but orbiting a position, will get the best shots for that one camera position, total 9 photos per camera position. The more photos the better obviously but these should keep the splats positioned and colored correctly.

4:26 here's my guess. They're going to in some form use the splat to create a 3d environment. And then make a rough layout of their environment with cardboard boxes. They will then capture themselves acting on the life sized "mini" set. For camera motion then scale the motion up to fit the height of their giant so you get the fluid motion of the camera like you're walking around.
