Tell me, does the zinc electrode dissolve when charged? Will parameters improve with the addition of manganese? What is the frost resistance of the composition?

@@cayrex, are there complexing agents that can be added to lower the discharge rate to barest minimum? In this case, what is the the course of the high discharge rate; high internal resistance?
@techskills4046
@techskills4046 6 күн бұрын
@@kazeem-mustapha Yes, something can be added to reduce the high rate of self discharge. But I don't know the exact agent in this case. Self discharge is not due to high internal resistance but as a result of internal reactions between components of the cell. It can also be due to using bad separator resulting to leakage. Wrong charging voltage and overcharging can also contribute.

What tests did you made? What internal resistance has your cell? What is the discharge current! What curent can sustain on a period of time and on what resistance load? There are 18650 cell that can do over 80amps on a short for over 5sec (others can do 100amps for short period of time)! I know is a home made but provide more details! Ty!

This is not really comparing apples with apples because the suggestion is that the final battery/capacitor model tested (showing the very high amperage of 43 amps) is a duplication of the earlier simple cell (no. 3) which comprised a central cathode with active material each side of it and an anode of zinc that surrounded it to effectively create a double anode area and produce 7.3 amps. The final battery composition is in fact 2 cells (2 anodes and 2 cathodes) in parallel so to get an acurate measurement of the individual cell's current production, you really need to halve the final measurement taken which equates to slightly less than 22 amps per cell from an electrode area of about 47 sq. cm., which is about 470 mA per square centimetre. This is nevertheless a decent amount of current and it would be interesting to know how long it can be sustained under some load.
@cayrex
@cayrex 2 күн бұрын
The plan for that video was to make a powerful cell in a size of a credit card (target demension of the cell: 8.5x5.5x1cm). So, in that case I have the volumen of around 46cm3 which I can fill with materials. Which means that I can have positive and negative active material in the thickness of 0.5cm if I want. But because in that case the layer of active material will be to thick (thiner active layer = higher current) for that reason the max current will not be so high like it was now. For that reason I go with multilayer electrode setupe to minimize the thickness of the active material layer. You know that you have many various of battery cell architectures like Jelly Roll (Li-ion 18650), z - fold, Stacked Electrode - Layered Pouch/Prismatic or also known as multilayer electrode pouch cell design, bobbin cell construction (AA-AAA batteries), bipolar, etc. Here in this project I use the cell architecture called multilayer electrode pouch cell design where the cell is made from multiply electrodes,... which is almost like jelly roll design where you have one long electrode rolled together but instead of one long electrode you have multipl small electrodes which are puted one to another.
@seaskiaustralasia
@seaskiaustralasia 2 күн бұрын
@@cayrex Hello Cayrex. Yes I do fully understand that battery manufacturers use clever designs to get the maximum power out of the smallest possible package. For instance, the Samsung INR18650-20Q cell with a maximum 4.2 volts (nominal 3.6v) and rated with a current capacity of 2 amps (2000 mA) is an instance of the jelly roll you mentioned and it is contained in a volume of about 16 cubic centimetres, but because its electrodes are 80cm x 5.5cm (then tightly rolled together) it really is only delivering a measely 4.5 milliamps (4.5 mA) per square centimetre of electrode surface from a total of 440 sq.cm. (440x4.5 = 1980 mA or 1.98 amps). However, this is real working current. Your volume for your 43 amp (initial current) multilayer construction is about 46 cubic centimetres in volume and I estimate it has an electrode surface area of 116 sq.cm. (the equivalent of 2.5 cells) so it is delivering 43,000 mA of short circuit current at the equivalent of about 370 mA per sq.cm. which is about 80 times greater than the Samsung battery, but your measurement is done on short circuit. The essential differences between the Samsung and your design is your cell volume is about 3x larger and your voltage is only half that of the Samsung, but the really concerning thing is that the initial current load reading is on a short circuit measurement, meaning it is not an accurate measurement of real current like that claimed for the Samsung. Just by way of example, I can measure a new AA battery on my multi meter and get the correct voltage of 1.5v but when I measure the current using short circuit, it displays the initial current as 7.3 amps yet the true amp rate for these alkaline AA batteries is about 2.5 amps, so your real amperage could be less than a third of what you are reading on your multimeter (perhaps even a lot less?). To get an accurate reading of your amps you need to get a known load in the circuit. If you publish your current (amp) readings on this basis, it could still be a very good result because I estimate that you only need to get from your battery design about 30 mA/sq.cm. to match the Samsung Li-ion power (making allowance for voltage difference) on a volume for volume basis. So, if I am correct about your real anode area being equivalent to 116 sq.cm., a real reading of 3.5 amps (3500 mA) will look very good.

well, which is more useful, a credit card or a same sized battery. cheers. multiple such double sided pocket cells in a battery box. yep the double sided cell structure is the best. and very simple to make. credit card sized phone, hmh. how about zinc or iron foil instead of the metal sheet. also how about foil style carbon fiber cloth with some graphite powder. put more of the cells in parallel to multiply the total charging current without needing the dendrite blocker. yep like in lead-acid battery. if you have multiple swappable zinc-acid batteries side by side, then it does not really matter if its slower to charge a battery. the fast mode is the super cap mode right? not the zinc-air mode. well super caps are expected to have kA outputs.
