Awesome video Pieter, Dankie. I must say, the lounge visits are awesome, and also saves you money in the sense that everything you drink and eat in the lounge is free. Thus for people that travel a lot, this will be a big plus.

I was with FNB 2 years ago. Moved to Discovery Bank. In my opinion, Discovery Banks rewards are far better than any bank in South Africa. They don’t limit you and you can get thousands of rands back each month. You also get major discounts at partners and you can convert your miles to money directly.
@MoneyMarx
@MoneyMarx 2 жыл бұрын
Hey Travis. To be honest, I haven't really looked into Discovery in too much detail yet, but I believe that if you become part of the Discovery ecosystem with its medical aid and insurance, then its rewards can become quite powerful as well. I will look into it in the near future, but jah, for now we'll be sticking with FNB until it makes sense to move everything over to Discovery :)

Hey Andrew. Thanks for pointing that out. Yes, you will have to buy the tickets through the FNB platform to access the airport lounges as far as I understand.

Great video. I'm interested on how to move to level 5. I'm definitely going to use your strategy of spousal benefit and downgrade to premier as I see no value in private wealth! But thanks Again

@@MoneyMarx 100 times this. I always find myself going up and down between 1 and 3. My private banker even suggested something simple like moving 100 bucks 8 times between cards using the app just to get that usage logged and score something like ?1000? points

Thanks a lot for the video. If I may ask, what is the use of you business account? Are you using it for the income that you are generating through your tube etc? I would love if you could make a video about about what you channel through your business
@MoneyMarx
@MoneyMarx 2 жыл бұрын
Hey Walter. Jah I channel all the income from my side businesses as well as my business expenses through my business account. It saves tens and thousands of rands in taxes every year so it really helps to save a ton of money. There seems to be quite a lot of interested in this topic, so I am planning on creating a mini video series and/or course on how exactly to set up a business in South Africa in the near future :)

Have you ever looked into discovery bank and its rewards program
@MoneyMarx
@MoneyMarx 2 жыл бұрын
Hey AW. To be honest, I haven't yet. Discovery is a bit out of my price point at this stage as if you want to get the full benefit, you need to join their whole ecosystem, which caters for wealthy individuals for the most part. I will look into it in the next couple of years, and perhaps when it makes sense we can consider moving, but for now I am gappy with FNB

Hi Pieter I just wanted to ask that R1844 that you’re getting back in eBucks is that actually cash that you get back in your pocket (ie money I can spend on anything I want) or is it still a rewards currency ? Thanks for the informative video
@MoneyMarx
@MoneyMarx Жыл бұрын
Hey Yogesh. You cannot take it out as cash, but you can use it to pay for fuel at Engen, Groceries at Checkers and banking fees. You can also get deals from the eBucks shop and can use it at other online and instore shops

What about just going with Tyme Bank which has 0 monthly fee?
@MoneyMarx
@MoneyMarx 2 жыл бұрын
Hey Theesan. I use Tymebank for my savings account but the transactional account is a bit limited for my personal needs. And although it has zero monthly fees, you will still pay for each individual transaction, so if you make a lot of transactions (like I do), then it can actually end up being quite expensive. Plus I make much more money from FNBs rewards programme, so that is where the real benefit lies for me :)

@MoneyMarx
@MoneyMarx 2 жыл бұрын
Hey Riaan. It really depends on where and for how long you invest your money. I would be very wary for any investment where your returns are "promised", especially when it is above 10% per year, except perhaps if it is a bond or fixed deposit for a bank, but this would likely be for a period longer than 5 years

Very helpful yes. I guess you really have to sit and do the maths...I am with standard bank.
@MoneyMarx
@MoneyMarx 2 жыл бұрын
Hey Deidre. It really depends. If you run a side hustle or small business, then a separate bank account would make sense as it will help keep your personal and business expenses separate which will help for tax purposes. But you will be paying extra banking fees for another account, so other than that I don't really see a point in having two bank accounts.

Why not just use a Std Bank MyMo account which is pay-as-you-transact for R5 per month? I feel like one can save tons.
@MoneyMarx
@MoneyMarx 2 жыл бұрын
Hey Zenodiac. The PAYU accounts only work out cheaper if you make few transactions every month. I make quite a lot of transactions, so a bundled fee with a good rewards programme will save me the most money in my personal circumstances
