It is probably a slightly different key. Others have mentioned the same. When an musical movement is manufactured there is a limited and optimum selection of notes available. Sometimes, the song has to be slightly re-arranged to be compatible with the mechanical musical movement.

Hello, Any thoughts on the sound when choosing wood designing the box? Im having my carpenter make me some boxes. I have the movements. Im thinking in terms of the acoustics of the box? Im not too worried. I noticed by playing my movement on a ceramic cup i got the lodest sound although it was a little distorted. Also the best sound so far is on my parents kitchen table Like one thing on guitars violins clavichords they use spruce. Atleast like on the top of a guitar violin. Where the sound whole is? My clavichord has spruce near the bridge. btw i love your box in this video. I watch this video often Also down the road id like to get more movements made

Hi - there is a spring wire attached to the musical movement that interfaces with a plunger mounted in the side board of the box and engages the governor fan to stop when closed. Hope that helps - do not think I will be making a video of the process. William

How does the system for the "automatic" play work ? I mean, why and how does the song play only when the box is opened ?

the system was meant to be always working, however when the box is closed it clicks a mechanism that cuts power to the mechanism, and as soon as the box is opened (and power is restored to the circuit) the song keeps playing as the circuit has power again

Absolutely beautiful! I am a huge fan of music boxes, but naturally, I prefer songs that are less popular to the general public and therefore not made in bulk! I have a pretty good understanding of how the movement works, but I have no idea how to create a drum with the pins spaced out perfectly. Do you do each of these by hand through trial and error? A close friend bought me a replica music box from the anime in highschool and I kind of got a little obsessed with making more replicas, and non anime-accurate music boxes with the Lilium tune. I had a basic wood working class in Junior High and pretty much learned on my own after that. I also took another woodworking class recently through an Adult Education program in my community. If you are trying to make a musical movement - that is a whole different venue and only a few people in the world make custom songs - I am not one of them. But at the library there are usually books that tell how they were made in the beginning 200+ years ago. :)

the box itself is a piece of cake, what is actually expensive is top put a melody on the metal plate. I wish it was easier or less expensive but i don't think it's possible to find someone who actually does that as work (like songs on request) i wanted , faraway promise from xenogear but, i gave up :/
