I would recommend watching as many KZbin tutorials and videos as you can, that's how I got started. It honestly took me 6 months of trial and error until I could make my first pieces, and another 6 months to feel fully confident and move on to some harder projects. Unfortunately, I'm not sure I'm the right person to give an in depth tutorial on how to use the machine especially because I have a vintage one and it's going to be super different from everyone else's. There are some amazing resources out there though, it just takes a lot of time to get used to :')

I loved watching you magically create all of these projects. I do hand knitting (and some crochet, but not a lot) and I have been dreaming of a knitting machine for years. They are so inexpensive here (secondhand ones, that is) So tell me the truth: on a scale of 1-10 (ten being holy moly noooooooooo) how hard is learning to machine knit? (maybe it depends on the person, but I do like to get stuck into things, but I am also a little stressed out with my job and would like something that isn't like "work" 'cause I have enough of that in my career lol) Would love to hear your thoughts!

I can’t lie, initially learning how to use it was really really hard & frustrating, especially because mine was also secondhand and I had to fix a lot of it until it was working properly. It took me maybe 6 months to be able to make basic pieces, but once I figured out how to make those I was honestly obsessed! It is quite hard to learn but the most rewarding thing if you out the effort into it :)

Hi Paula, checking in a year later and re-reading your comment hahaha ( I had totally forgotten I commented 🫣) So: I got a machine (or rather a couple of machines) and you did NOT LIE. The learning curve is really, really steep. So I have had the Knitmaster 360 (without a ribber but with the knit leader built in) for a few months and I also spent some time getting it to work (new sponge bar and a few needles, you know the drill)The hardest thing is, in the beginning you don’t know if it‘s you doing something wrong or the machine needing a fix. 🤷🏽‍♀️ So the machine was sorted…annnnnnd then I lost my courage lol. So I bought a cheaper, simpler machine with a ribber (a vintage darling from the 50‘s) which kinda taught me how the machines actually work in the straightforward sense even if it is slower. My thought was the ribbing on the simpler machine can be transferred (for the brave) to the other machine. So here I am two months later and I have yet to create anything more than swatches 😂🫣 I am so in my head about it, lol. But today is the day, I think I will just finally make a full project and get over myself. Thanks for the brilliant videos with your thinking / patterning process. I would ADORE it if you made maybe a quick tutorial about your punch cards settings but maybe that is just a bit niche. At any rate, you‘ve been fun and helpful to watch!
