I am a norwegian living in Mexico at the moment and have a mexican girlfriend. And since I am not a native spanish speaker I make mistakes here and there. It has happened on 3-4 occasiones that I have said bad words (glosarías) in front of her parents. But all the times they have been understanding about it and they have just laughed it away😂 (first time I met her mom i said “que onda wey” to her dog, cause I thought wey=amigo) oh, and I have now gotten a lot of exercise with the “usted” form, but it did slip sometimes in the beginning!

Oh my word!!!! So I met my boyfriend's parents last year and I was also super stressed about it because they're Scottish, and my bf warned me I might struggle understanding them since they have a regional accent. But it was absolutely fine, they were very impressed with my English and I could understand them perfectly. His grandmothers though, they spoke with so many celtic words, I was always like o_o what This month I'm taking my bf to Mexico to meet my parents too! I haven't asked him if he's as nervous as I was, but the big difference is that he doesn't speak Spanish. But hopefully it will be fine and we'll have a great time. Thanks for the advices though! OMG I know the feeling I went to Mexico to visit my ex for 3 months (sick!) and stayed by his house. I brought gift for his mom but I was so nervous and he was not helping me at all when I asked what should I say ect. his mom did not speak a world of english and my spanish wasn't the best. It was a struggle haha especially when we were staying just two of us but whiteboard and translator came handy hahaha I will never forget her as she was super nice to me and she is still writing to me even though it was like 6 years ago and we broke up not long time after that. Mi novio y yo estamos en la misma situación que Jos y Janik: Larga distancia entre alemán y mexicana 😱 y estaba tan nerviosa cuando iba a llegar que me salieron ronchas por todo el cuerpo, nunca supe que fueron, se me quitaron dos semanas después... Todo salió perfecto y al final mis papás acabaron amando a mi novio. Incluso mi papá nos llevó de viaje a la Sierra de Querétaro para que él conociera, lo cuál indica lo mucho que le agradó el sujeto, ya que a mis ex-novios mexicanos no los hubiera llevado ni a cenar jajajaja.

I’m brand new to seeing this channel, but I love it 🥰 I’m American (from the deep-south) and my husband is German. In the US, learning a foreign language is super rare. We usually only take one or two years to get the basics. When my future husband met my parents it was only his second day ever in the US! He had so much trouble with their southern dialect. I’ve only had one 1/2 years of German and it’s been 22 years since those classes! His mom speaks a little English and his dad only knows a few words. So, even from the beginning I speak a mix of German and English with them or my husband translates. Ich denke, ich werde immer besser, aber es ist immer noch schwierig.

I met my boyfriend in the US of A where we both spent a gab year last year. He is French and I am German. Compared to some stories I read in the comments this distance is quite ridiculous, but in the end it's still over 1000km. 1000km too much as we both thought it was but we tried... And until now it worked. The excitement you feel when you are about to see each other is just enormous. With the time that passed, I learned more and more to value the relationship itself and especially the time that we spend together. My boyfriend is spanish and I'm Mexican, I met him the last year When I went to Spain for summer vacation, basically we fell in love there, things were kind of fast, but when I came back to Mex in August we started having a LDR, one month later, he bought the plane ticket to come here and vist me in January, so it was Pretty amazing that he Would come to Mex for the first time just to be with me (he stayed 1 month like Janik) BUT I was very nervous about how My dad Would react when I tell him " I met a guy in Spain, now he is My boyfriend and he will come in January". My dad is pretty tough so at first he thought that My bf was a kind of crazy Man, like a guy with bad intentions. But when he finally met him, yes, he was a little bit jealous (like all fathers) But at the end of the day My dad accepted My LDR with My boyfriend and actually, they could get along, like best buddies, And I was so surprised because My dad hated My ex so, I was praying that he would not hate My boyfriend. Now I will go to spain again to visit him and probably My dad Will spend a couple of weeks there with us That's the story ❤ Joss and Janik you guys inspire me, And you are the perfect Example of how LDR can work out If both people want to make it possible That's what My boyfriend and I do everyday, we remember that we won't be in a LDR forever 'cause we are doing our best to be together by the next year Greetings from 🇲🇽 and 🇪🇸 ❤❤

Qué lindo. La primera vez que mis papás conocieron a mi ex novio, es cuál es francés, él sabía súper nervioso y cometió prácticamente los mismos errores que Janik. Encima mis papás súper crueles lo sentaron para una entrevista jaja fue súper chistoso y el pobre sufría porque no podía hablar muy bien español. Al siguiente día ya todo cambió y llegaron a tomarle cariño, al punto que aunque ya no estemos más juntos aún preguntan por él.
