Two Wheel Cruise, on the wedding aspect section. Love to hear the Vietnam customs, as I had to pay a fee to wife’s friend to make the introduction to her Taiwanese parents. Before the wedding ceremony, had to pay that the other traditional fee to her parents which they returned to us as part of wedding gift, given it was just to maintain that tradition. Except that “friend” keep her $5K USD check fee. Also, did you have to track how much everyone gave at the wedding in a red ledger? As we have to pay back to those families at their next weddings, which it can’t be lower than what we got. Therefore, those red envelopes were just a loan with interest.

@@frankyu4967 Yeah, this guy has no idea what he's getting into. I am a Vietnamese person born in the US and I would never marry a Vietnamese woman. Vietnamese values can be rigid as well. My parents were from another past generation however and maybe Vietnamese culture has changed. Of course they approve a foreign guy. It means she can possibly move to America and that's a higher probability of a better life. Sounds simplistic but that's how it is when you come from a poor place. Vietnamese people can be too much about money. It's survival.

This is an absolutely beautiful story. I can relate to this so much. I'm Vietnamese, but I'm born and raised in California. And while I do have an understanding of my culture, I was quite bewildered by many customs from my girlfriend's native background. We are currently in a long-distance relationship since she's living in Hue right now. With everything going on, we don't know when we'll be able to see each other again (aside from the usual facetime). When I learned about how her lifestyle is and the stuff that is the norm for her, I was quite shocked. I didn't realize how lucky I had it. I can vouch about the financial part, what we make in shorter hours is way above what they could ever make even with a degree. And I agree with you about the whole thing about suddenly wanting to marry someone. I had the same mentality that I needed to this or that before we even thought about marrying. But something inside of me changed and I'm ready to take the next step, but time isn't on our side and we have to wait. And yes, the whole "buying the wife" thing is such an utter shock. I didn't know about that until I asked some friends. LOL. I've been following your channel for two weeks now, ever since I decided to look up Japanese-style bikes and discovered your "under $100 mamchari" video. I've been binge watching your videos and have learned a great deal. I only got back into biking since I started riding the bike I restored five years ago (I did everything wrong and it felt like it was going to fall apart every time I rode it. It's also from the 80's which got passed onto me during high school back in 2007). With some luck, I was able to find something perfect for my needs, a hybrid urban commuter/fitness. Anyway, I've rambled enough. Keep up the good work with your videos, I love the wholesome vibes of everything between you two. With luck, maybe I'll be able to meet you two once this pandemic subsides. Fingers crossed for spring 2021. For now, take care and be safe. :D

I once met a family in the Seattle area that was trilingual. I don't remember for sure what all the languages were, but, as I recall, he spoke German to his wife and children, she spoke Lithuanian to her husband and the children and the children replied in the language spoken to them. (I was amazed to see them switching back and forth instantaneously.) Of course they all spoke English with me and others outside the family. It can be done.

I’m Indonesian and used to live in South Korea for 1 year for study, and yeah i have bunch of vietnamese friends in my language class, im amazed with them, they are fast learner, hard working, and they are so good in korean language, and somehow, they can blend with the circumstances they are in, like they way they dress, the way they speak in korean, i thought they were korean if i didnt see them speak in their first language, and they pretty much take over part time job/full time in my neighborhood 🤣

Vietnamese people and especially Vietnamese women are very hardworking people indeed. I'm from Vietnam but I grew up in France, I was used to the "French lazyness". When I went back to Vietnam the first time, it was a cultural shock. Everybody is working so hard everyday, doing hours and hours non stop. I lived in Hong Kong in the 80's and I met my long time girlfriend at a party at the Japanese Embassy and she was a weird Hong Kong Chinese in that she didn't speak English AT ALL, But she spoke Japanese. We spoke Japanese to each other as well, until she learned English and I finally learned some Chinese...

I never knew before that Biwa is actually a lake. Our lesson in Grade 8 music here in the Philippines is Asian music so Vietnam music is part of it and in music of Japan, Biwa is shown in our textbook and it's a stringed musical instrument played while seated. Since your responsibilities are washing the dishes, I recommend getting a dish washing machine :p Really though, automating chores really improves the experience of living together and saves so much time, I recommend it for everyone. Vacuum cleaner robot, dish washer, and washing machine/dryer, are really must haves.
