I really appreciate your methodical and no bs approach. In a world of “get good quick!” Type teachers, it’s refreshing to hear you keep it real, and push the importance of practice. I purchased both the pentatonic and modal picking e books, can’t wait to dive in.

Again a great video. As someone who was stuck a bit too long on theory I figured doing half theory and practicing a song also really helps. Songs can also teach you techniques and heping you mute and learn other stuff you dont really do in the theory part yet (for me at least) Im using your Pentatonic Power to learn the fretboard (And its amazing) Then I practice my hamronic minor with modes shapes (That 7 Sharp is too fun) then I practice a song / riff, Iron Man for my slide, Breaking the law cause its amazing, etc. As an adult learner who start in her mid 30s, I admit sometimes I dont have time with work, cooking, taking care of my partner and you know living my life but im always excited to come back and im improving the best I can. We got this everyone ♥♥

Thank you so much Jon ! Playing guitar is so much fun for me and i love it. But I often find that technique/ theory seems annoying sometimes . I admit that being able to fix my picking technique and understanding modes and chord progressions is definitely useful for me! So I always make sure to make time for actual practice. As you said, you need to choose something you want to learn. So I have discovered that when I focus on a few subjects I enjoy the theory practice more. Also I like to use etudes and musical sounding exercises because then I can use them in songs I'm writing or in improvisation. Alternate picking , legato , economy picking and making sure to push down as light as possible with my fretting hand ( reduce tension and allow myself to play longer) are just a few things I like to focus on. If I have 30 to 40 minutes. I'll spend 5 minutes on each category and then I still have 20 minutes left. I'll focus on learning a song or writing original music. Some days I will practice improvisation or play a song I already know for fun as well as learning new music And yes!! Always spend some time enjoying guitar and playing music ! It's also great to write music goo! Your approach suits me really well. Thank youn
