I'm a disabled veteran from the Iraq War and a recovering addict. Recently, I'm guessing about 4-6 months ago I started having this happen. Your description on how it feels and what you do to "kickstart" your heart is exactly how it feels. My psychiatrist claims it's insomnia due to a lot of grief. They are going to try and reset my sleep with an older medication in hopes I can get this under control. I am so glad I'm not the only one. I've felt very alone with this and like I'm not explaining it correctly. I hope you continue to get better and if you do get better, it never comes back.

Me too, I'm having such a hard time, I have been dealing with this for 15 years ! It started out of the blue when I was 19-years-old after a surgery, I had what they said was a panic attack. It was the most terrifying thing in the world, I remeber saying to myself "if I just sleep everything will be better" however, I was feeling so horrible physically and it just popped into my head "you might die in your sleep" and I have been terrified every since, my life completely runied. I'm now having a really bad bout of fear, I can't get to sleep until 5-6 a.m. and wake up at 11am feeling unrested, anxious, and sweating. I just want to love sleep again and be able to sleep with no problem like years before. I need some help, however, I'm a poor single mother and help only seems to be available to the wealthy. I cry all day because I cant be a mother to my child, I'm anxious and severly tried all day, my daughter is 12-years-old and she has always known me to be this way, tried and unable to cope and live a normal life. If you found some why to help yourself, please let me know. Maybe it will help me as well.

The thought of sleep always terrified me for the lack of control you have, my mind refuses to let go of conciousness. to the point i've experienced sleep paralysis on a regular basis. powerful fears start arising. what helped for me was easing my mind with the thought that i didnt have to sleep, but i just haf to get easy with the moments before sleep when you feel concioussness dimming and just trying to explore that state in a peaceful way, allowing yourself to wake if your minds start rebelling. Kind of like enjoying the view on top of a cliff instead of jumping off. eventually your body will do the rest before you have the chance to be scared.

The first night it eliminated my sleep anxiety completely "fear of dying" and allowed me to sleep with no fear ...after a couple of weeks I was able to get off the medication and rewired my brain to feeling safe again at bedtime..but I have to agree that I went sleepless 9 days because of this anxiety..felt like I was having a heart attack everytime it triggered at bed time..worst feeling ever..but sometimes certain medication can help for these situations

I recently developed this 3-4 months back and it has gotten to the point that I would stay up until 4-5am then slip in to sleep from exhaustion, but even then these days it has gotten worse and I don't even try to sleep anymore since the feeling is so horrible, as a result my health and thought process is just messed up. I'm typing this at 6am in the morning and still don't feel an ounce of sleepiness even if I feel like I'm dying from exhaustion. I hope I can get better soon.

Ever since a negative experience with weed, I've been struggling with an issue that I never had before. Initially, I used small amounts of weed to help me relax at night, but one night I accidentally took too much, and when it kicked in, I thought it was going to be my last night. I was advised to go to bed if I had a bad experience, but the anxiety I felt was overpowering. The fear of dying prevented me from sleeping, and this feeling persisted every night afterward, causing me to wake up with a racing heart in the morning. Sometimes, the racing heart would occur before bed, during sleep, and in the mornings, and it was so severe that my body would shake from the stress. To address this anxiety, I turned to an ebook called DARE, which provided significant help in managing my symptoms. Additionally, I discovered that I was deficient in magnesium, a common deficiency among many people. I started taking a magnesium supplement containing various types of magnesium, initially at 500mg daily. It took some time to adjust, but it proved to be beneficial. However, recently, the fear of death at night has resurfaced, without the racing heart. To tackle this, I plan on increasing my magnesium intake to 500mg again before bedtime. I feel more secure sleeping during the day or with the lights on when this feeling arises, but I typically need to be extremely tired to fall asleep. Despite feeling exhausted before bed, as soon as I lie down, worry sets in. My nose starts to feel congested, and my chest tightens, leading me to panic, fearing I can't breathe. Swallowing becomes difficult, further exacerbating my anxiety. Once I start drifting off to sleep, I experience a queasy stomach and a nervous sensation similar to the feeling of free-falling, causing me to become alert once again. It usually takes going through this cycle a few times before I can finally fall asleep. At one point, my condition was so severe that when I woke up with heavy eyes and slightly blurry vision, I would panic, thinking my body was shutting down. I would often leap out of bed and rush to the bathroom, splashing cold water on my face to reassure myself that I wasn't going to die. It's quite absurd when I think about it now. However, one valuable lesson I learned from that night of taking too much weed is the incredible power of the mind. I hope you're able to find peace of mind. It's currently 3 am for me, and I'll attempt to do the same.

Anxiety is a terrible thing. The trouble is once we get on the loop it creates more fear. People say it goes back to childhood. Go back and examine the things you were afraid of or caused distress. The sensations you may feel is your anxious response to the feelings and it’s a combination of different things the brain stores to cope with it. So the brain needs an answer and if that answer is sensations then that’s the anxiety cycle. I’ve been suffering like this on and off since late 2013 and I’ve experienced all kinds of feelings and symptoms. Get well!

My was caused along time ago smoking weed once and only once and I didn’t like the trip and thought I was dying, I’ve been suffering ever since, I’m now 48 and am completely emotionally drained from fighting my own mind, the irony is I’m not enjoying life like I should be( constantly on edge thinking of the grim reaper) to the point I don’t want to live either, it’s bizarre , I’ve had hundreds of nights at the point of drifting off suddenly waking my self either shouting something totally random, or grabbing the bed post sooo hard I popped veins in my hand because I thought I was slipping away forever and I was fighting so hard to stay as I’m terrified of going... that when I come around fully I’m physically knackered and incredibly tense and tight chest, I’d love to be cured, I think people around me have had enough of hearing about my misery etc, I know it’s draining and obviously it is on them too, I hate the fact it’s inevitable and one day it will definitely happen ( list my dad suddenly a month ago) and fear the unknown, and yet sometimes after a couple of beers I can totally accept it all and be cool, but my point is it’s not normal for anyone to be thinking about 24/7, it’s exhausting and it’s a monkey I want to get rid of , much love and thank you for your video, I know I’m not alone x..... ps.... 11.38 pm now and in bed, dreading putting my head down, but this video may help a little x

@@neilwilliams4420 Try Prairie Health, they are online and only $99 per month + $15 if you are prescribed medication. Their initial consultation is 1 hour. Right now they are having a $50 off your first payment. Furthermore, they do genetic testing for free to make sure that they will give you a medication that's going to have very little to no side effects and that works best for you if medication is needed. I joined yesterday.

I'm going through the same thing. I've had problems sleeping since I was a child, but can't place the exact point it started. In my teens, I heard that an old teacher of mine in her late 30s had a stroke from taking the pill, and I was always kind of shocked with the situation. Now I'm on the pill and in my 30s, so this is a constant thought at night. But I'm not sure my anxiety doesn't come from earlier life experiences. I definitely believe the coronavirus situation has awakened these fears of death again. It's terrible. I will try breathing and creating those scenarios you mentioned (my imagination is also extremely vivid, which I find to be a curse), hopefully that can help me relax, since I really don't want to start taking anxiety medication. Thanks for the video, stay strong everyone.

@@dr.beckyspelman I appreciate you trying to help, but I wouldn't be able to continue sessions because I'm not an American (I believe that's where you are). And I've sought counseling in my country. Thank you for caring 🙏

Thank you for your video. Can I ask you how were your symptoms? Were you waking up at the beginning of your sleep, so scared and like breathless?

My anxiety come and goes. Sometimes I look back when I had it and think how stupid it actually is but then when it comes back then the fear takes over sometimes stronger than before
