How I Pack My Bike For The Airplane

If you're travelling internationally a dedicated bike case is a must: I ventured over from the UK to do triathlon three times thus far with my road bike and there's obsoletely no way it would have survived intact without the added protection offered by my bikebox alan. BBA can be pretty expensive (around £400), however, I picked up a very good second hand one at the start of 2015 for £225. In fact, Ill be using it this May for the CapTex tri in Austin, Texas.

I have almost the same exact bike case (CyclingDeal XXF EVA hardcase) that I bought two years ago. Prices have definitely jumped up! It came with two wheel bags that are really nice. I think my case weighs about 24-26lbs so after I put my road bike in there's not a lot of room left to stay under the 50lb weight limit most airlines have imposed. I've used it to fly to Arizona on Alaska Airlines, Asia twice on EVA Airlines, and this Friday I'll be using it on Japan Airlines. So far I have never been charged any extra fees. The bike has always arrived at the destination with no issues. Every time it has arrived I have picked it up in oversized luggage and not on the carousel.

Thanks for checking it out. I have been using it for several years now. The wheel on mine gets clunky but you just have to put chain oil on it if it’s not smooth. Mind is old and has been taken so many places but all in all protects the bike.

Looks pretty nice. They claim a weight of 18.3 pounds so unless you're packing steel you should be good to go and stay under 50 pounds.

Yes! I still have my Surly Ogre. Lately my favorite bike is my gravel bike. Does everything.

Is it more durable than plastic hard case?

The case is hard similar to plastic hard case. It’s definitely durable but a hard plastic case may be stronger.
