I ran into the same problem with leaving my headlamp out and ended up using one of my hip belt pockets for nighttime essentials like fire starter, bellows tube, extra lighter and headlamp. I also use the 750ml bottle in one of my shoulder pockets and made a shock cord loop to go over the neck of it to keep it from falling out when I bend over or abruptly succumb to gravity whilst misstepping. 😄 12.2 is not too shabby! I hope you enjoy your trip brother! 👍🏼🙏🏼

Designating one of the pockets for early camp in the evening and late camp in the morning is actually genius. That may be the way I go. I may have to add the shock cord for the bottles. 🦑

Thanks for sharing. I usually stash the headlamp back in the ditty bag. But been having it ready in the outside pocket lately.

I do everything you did but I don’t compress my sleeping bag at all, instead I just loosely put it at the bottom of my pack and add all my gear on top.

I see a lot of people do that but I don’t know how you keep the bag from occupying half (or more) of the volume. 🤷♂️🦑

@@GoneFeralWithSquidly you’re right, mine is a 55L pack.

I definitely think how you pack your pack can play a big role in how comfortably your pack rest on your hips/shoulders. I love videos like this! Squidly, which trekking pole is that?

Thanks! I do think they can be interesting and inspire thought on how to pack your own pack. Thats the Cascade Design trekking pole. I think I got the set at Academy. They’re a budget option but I’ve really liked them. 🦑

You can only pack an Xmid with the Kakwa..otherwise its against the rules...lol joking aside, its a great pack! You pack it just like i do! And also, the front strap pouches were inteded for bear spray. Since Durston is based in the canadian rockies, that was his main intent for them..but its perfect for those water bottles you were talking about! You could put a phone in there...but it will take time to stretch to it, to where you can slip it in easier (she said that, not me).. awesome video!

😂🤣I don’t carry bear spray, so for me they’re perfect for the 700 ml bottles. 🦑

Squidly, that is by far the smallest tent packing I've ever seen! Well done! Do you use a pillow? I didn't see you pack one. Air mattress? I think people saying they aren't water bottle sleeves are nuts. If it LOOKS like a water bottle holder, and it FITS water bottles... let's not call it a zebra, folks. Great video! 😁💚👊

I use the Thermarest Airhead pillow. Some people make simple things over complicated. 🦑

I usually use a nylofume bag. They seem to work for me.

Is your Kakwa Ultra or Ultra Grid?

It’s Ultra 200 I think.

I pack my Kakwa-40 very similar to yours. Here is a video I recorded about a loadout last summer using it: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jpTKXnmah7KbetE This loadout was for "Philmont" - a group trip with the Boy Scouts. I've taken it on several other trips as well.
