All of your teaching was very helpful. What a beautiful scene! Now I want to paint in tne snow! 😂 I did notice your pochade box shaking quite a bit. Does that ever bother you, or have you gotten used to it? I have been thinking about getting a lighter weight one myself.

Thanks! It’s shaking a little bit more for this painting as I have the mast extended. But it’s an extremely light box compared to many others, so it’s a trade off, and I prefer the portability

Beautiful painting! Can you please tell the colors used for the trees. They have a brown green color and I would like to know the colors you used. Thanks.

Probably a mix of yellow ochre, burnt sienna, and ultramarine.

Good one Patrick, good comments, and important tips about plein air painting in snow, as to color and value, stuff not possible to get unless you are out there doing it on the spot. Sure, it's bloody cold out there so it is not for sissies, but others will find it of immense value, and it will show in your winter work. I can spot a studio painting done from a photo of a snow scene a mile away. It lacks important and very subtle elements, as you mentioned. You only "get that eye" when you've done it many times on site. Not much snow here in AZ where I am now but did paint many winters of in the Lake Tahoe area years ago. You really can't stay warm enough, so 2-3 hours is it, and work small. I finally went to a good snowmobile jumpsuit and did ok, also put a little rug under your feet; it helps not to be standing in the snow for a long time, regardless of boot and sock type. Cheers!!

What a wonderful demonstration! I'm so glad I stumbled upon your channel, this level of quality is sadly very hard to find on youtube.

Lovely painting. Thank you for sharing your process and thoughts. Also, I love your pochade box. How do you store the paint left over from a session like this?

Thanks! I just shut the lid on my box and keep painting the next day usually. If the paint dries up and is starting to pile up I scrape it down and clean it up a bit

one suggestion, keep the music as low as you possibly can. I found it very distracting, and was annoyed because I had to rewind a sec, all the time here and there, because I missed a word that was overlapped by a musical note that took my attention away. (basically its like you are enjoying a lecture wholeheartedly and suddenly there is a music track playing somewhere in the college premises that just bugs you and ruins the fun) actually I have too may editing tips. get in touch Id love to edit a video for you for free. cheers!
