This all looks great! I'm just getting back into the hobby after a few years off. I'm always on the lookout for good weathering techniques. However, as a US veteran who used to work on helicopters (CH-53E) I can tell you that the bottom of the wings wont have that many, if any, scratches like you showed with the sanding. The darker area of the wing that you went back to paint is probably the non-skid surface where crews worked. That area would definitely be marked up. Those areas were always difficult to maintain. The bottom of the wings/fuselage always had dirt and grime from oil, fuel, dirt/sand, and most times a combination of all of it.

Thanks for feedback. I don’t build for accuracy.

@@RWHobbies fair enough. I still think it looks great! Weathering always scares me as I'm afraid I'm going to mess it up beyond repair.

cool video, many thanks! one idea to consider, the airbrush stencil masks look good. I made my own using sheets of evergreen plastic. I used a soldering iron to burn out various shapes, etc. works great. and I can make a few differentt ones to suit the effect i want. i did try differentt sheets including vinyl covers from notebooks but they seemed to leave stringy and hairy edges which were a bugger to tidy up. many thanks. Will

Love the video sir!! I subbed..if your interested In constructive criticism it may help some if you take them along for the ride between the steps, like showing just a bit how you go about painting, weathering, applying decals, doing clear coats, etc. exactly how you did later on in the video was great, and a plus is, any mistakes made, I feel, help people too. Like we’re all learning together or something..but I know editing little snippets of video to keep the length down is not where the fun is..and yet, you did your edits very well brotherman. I love you for you no matter what you do. Keep ‘em comin home slice.

Ah... I did that exact thing. I have like a 8-10 part full build series of the Viper. Check out the channel. This was just a little bite size video took from that series. Richie

Richie - at 17:14 you talk about mixing X-20A with the X-86 flat coat. Just making sure the Acrylic thinner can co-exist with the lacquer paints. Are you using X-20A for all your lacquer paint thinning needs or just the clear coat? If using something else, what lacquer thinner do you recommend? I am going to give lacquers a try as you suggest so am not familiar with the "do's and don'ts". Thanks!

Xf-86 is synthetic acrylic not lacquer. I like to use Mr. Hobby rapid thinners for lacquer paint as it dries within minutes.

Great video! I’m now making my 3rd comeback to modeling and I’m learning a lot from you. Especially as I mostly did WW2 aircraft before but am now doing modern jets. Can you recommend anything to replace Future/Pledge floor polish for protecting clear parts? It seems they’ve stopped making it completely now, and I really don’t want to pay $40 for a bottle on eBay. Thanks

Thanks for the kind words. Please don’t use floor polish. I use Tamiya LP-9 gloss clear. I love the stuff.

Did you know you can get flory washes in the US? High altitude hobby has them.

Yep, you answered your own question. High Altitude is the only one. HobbyWorld USA has the UMP clay washes.

Any advice for a zinc chromate acrylic?

Three ways I can think of. If you want to sand it back like I did here, go with something like Tamiya XF-4 instead of gray for the shadow coat. Under your main paint color. Another way I did on my Corsair was to take a small piece of sponge and sponge the XF-4 on after the top coat to give a chipping effect. I guess there is a third way. Put it under your top coat. Spray on some hair spray. Put on your top coat and then brush it away with a brush and some water. That is the hairspray chipping method. Tons of videos about that. I think he does it in this one... kzbin.info/www/bejne/hniZiIB7lMeiorc or this one... kzbin.info/www/bejne/bqaQd5dthLx8e68

Great video but sorry, not sure if it was just me that picked it up but I counted at least 10 ‘kind of’ used in 30 seconds!! Once you pick something like that up you can’t unhear it🙁had to stop watching!! Maybe redo it but kinda drop the kind of kinda?
