I learned first hand how much a CPL can make a difference. I picked one up for my 15-45 lens late last year. Now I'm shopping around for a lens filter for next year's solar eclipse.

I wish polarizers didn’t show the hidden stress patterns (or whatever) in the glass of cars lights and windshields. The rainbow effect can look so ugly sometimes. I’ve had so many photos with that effect and I never notice until I get home.

What size cpl do I get as I have an 85mm lens but most don’t go up to that and/or if they do, it’s 86mm

The size of the filter depends on the front diameter of the lens. If you look at the back of the lens cap it should indicate the size (49mm 67mm etc.) This is the size that you need. As a tip, to save money, buy the largest that you need, and for the lenses with smaller diameters use step up rings. Hope that answers your question.
