Not a lot of people know this but Carl is a very knowlegable tech guy/ sound engineer and can make almost any system sound good, he knows exactly what is required and often makes the system he is playing on sound better than the djs playing alongside him. Mixing it all together is magic. And...Oh Yes...I feel a little jealous when I look out and watch all the people dancing and having a good time...But, then, I am having a good time, too - and this motivates me to dance more behind the decks. Also more importantly the fact he said he never has planned a DJ set !! I.e. No training wheels etc it's all improv . Just like as soon as the wheels of steel are in motion that's it there's no safety net as such , like no stabilisers! Also if that really is Franky Bones then BIG UP !! great legend DJ too!

Its weird i got mad respect for Carl Cox but its rare i like his music/mixes. I love his technical skills but im the opposite, love Mays music/sets but like Cox technically. Fact May was mixing using an 8 track to mix multiples was way ahead of the time, and hard to do with that tech. May was defo an innovator that others imitated.
@twincityshredder30127 жыл бұрын
Everyone's ears are tuned a bit different. May has a very distinct sound, because his style is so different. Cox Tomorrowland 2017 set is perfection. Cox can capture that special moment. May's sets are for when you want to lose yourself in the music. For me Cox has that groove and vibe that many DJ's will never have. He has a direct connection to the crowd. Almost talking to them without talking. We all copycat eachother, some move past the basics an innovate, some master the basics and develop their "sound" by focusing on track selection. Track selection is key to putting out solid sets. Either way both still keep that human element alive, that's completely lost with today's music. Every DJ finds a way to use what he has. I've seen scratching on a dual cassette tape player, all the way to 4 Sony PSP's. Its making due with whats available. For me its all about the turntables, and it always will be. With turntables comes grace, and the human error. There's nothing better than seeing a bangin' set laid down on real decks.

@Elektr0hazard6 жыл бұрын
Of course not, but adds to the quality, you'd rather listen to Freddie Mercury playing with a Casio keyboard or a Kawaii piano? There are subtle things that these things deliver that make the artist comfortable, and that comfort, specially in the music industry, is very expensive :/

It good to see how a pro like Carl dose what he does I remember the old days when he was so flesh and used decks. Nice if you have the money. Me personally I am on a budget I use two direct drive turntables and a Numark mix track pro 3, although ditch the sareto software,Vdj full, a strong 4in 6 out sound card and search the internet for countless Pro music VST filters there isn't anything you can't code into VDJ with a little hacking as they leave it open to modification but I can see why most love NI tracktor soft ware as a lock system I would pick the over Sareto DJ. Being a white hate I have a high end PC VDJ is fexable to me.

The Model 1 is pure analogue, no soundcard. Apart from the CDJ2000 NXS2, how does he connect 4 channels from Traktor to the mixer? I don't see a Audio 10 device.

He uses an RME fireface ufx soundcard with a Hosa DTP-803 DB25 to 1/4 inch TRS Balanced Snake cable essentially turning the 1/4 inch jack outputs of the soundcard in to one single connector that connects to the Dsub1 of the mixer.

I remember my first time seeing Carl Cox was ruined by some drama among a friend group at the show (still an awesome set though). I decided to make up for it, so I went to see him three times in two different cities in a week (once in New York, and twice at Ultra in Miami). Definitely made some incredible memories that I will hold near and dear
