Hello Hello looks like all is well in your bee yard . I keep all my colonies tilted to the front year round but come time for winter I do tilt them more . Ya don’t need it raining down in the bees but with the water going down the front they can get some use out of that water. Thanks for the update. Thanks

I agree with you on year around keeping your hives tilted to the entrance. My hive stand are all built with a slight tilt to the entrance and I add the shim through the winter to increase the chances of the moister running to the front and not dripping down on the bees. I hope you have a 100% overwintering success this season. Many blessings to you!

How big of a entrance do you use ? I just leave 3/4 inch I also love that hive alive fondant there are studies to show dry sugar wears hairs on there probocis

That's a great question, I usually leave a full entrance with the mouse guard on but this year I had to do exactly what you did because the yellow jackets are out of control.

Insulated hives are better all the way around if we could get more to do this and stop with the top vents more bees would be happier I think there is enough data now

Currently we are at 4C and -8C at night. Our bees are staying inside the hive right now with the wind blowing.

I agree. In the wild the bees usually only have a small entrance that they use and ventilate the hive themselves. With the ceiling tile on top I have never lost a hive due to moister. For the last three years I have had 100% over wintering success. Blessings to you!
